Greetings and welcome to your sleep story tonight.
You are listening to a tiny story about a tiny tropical cottage.
In tonight's sleepy tale,
We travel to a small island off the main coast of Puerto Rico to spend the night in a tiny cottage designed by a fellow dreamer named Lucy.
Dozens of windows allow you to see the aquamarine sea through the tiny home,
And you come to find that even the smallest of dwellings may provide comfort and joy beyond your wildest dreams.
So get cozy and prepare to surrender as we journey to an island oasis.
It's time to dream away.
Welcome to Michelle's Sanctuary.
I am Michelle,
Your guide to the most soothing escapes your imagination may conjure.
Think of me as a long-time friend who wishes you peace and the sweetest slumber.
Change any details as we go and the story unfolds like a dream.
You are in charge of this nightly escape,
Your sacred gift for making it through another day.
So feel free to fall asleep at any time.
Before we begin,
Let's take a few relaxing breaths together.
Empty out the air in your lungs with an audible sigh.
Feel your body become drowsy and heavy in the sanctuary of your room.
Sip in the air through your nose,
Imagining a sea breeze rustling through your room,
Carrying the sweet night air of a seaside retreat.
Open your mouth and yawn if you like.
Then let out another sigh,
Making a sound to declare that this time is yours to unwind.
Take two more leisurely breaths at your own pace.
Slip into the rhythm of breathing that you might enjoy when nestled in a seaside hammock,
Floating and swinging beneath the stars.
Every inhale opens you to new possibilities.
Every sigh clears your body of tension and your mind of thoughts,
So you may enjoy a clear canvas to watch the story unfold.
Whenever you feel ready,
There's no rush at all.
Let your breath resume its natural rhythm.
Waft on the beautiful promises of the tropical escape about to unfold.
It's time for the story to begin.
The voice of the sea speaks to the soul.
The touch of the sea is sensuous,
Enfolding the body in its soft,
Close embrace.
Kate Chopin Lucy had re-read The Awakening on her morning subway commute for a solid month,
During the chill of an urban winter.
No longer did she feel as happy to escape to the lakeside tiny cabin she now rented to skiers and snow enthusiasts.
Every penny saved was meant for the next endeavor.
A fairy tale escape,
Simple in design,
But imagined in her most soothing night dreams and persistent daytime reveries.
She felt the sea calling to her,
Awakening in her a strong hunch that her next tiny home project would belong along the sand.
And so,
On a snowy day,
Her plans were put in motion as she sketched designs of a tiny cottage with dozens of window panes that ran from floor to ceiling so one could see the ocean looking right through the cottage.
Her vision was a canvas of white and aquamarine,
Research leading her to discover a perfect cove on one of the 140 small islands of Puerto Rico.
Simple and serene,
This tiny cottage named La Perla Blanca,
Or the White Pearl,
Beckoned to you,
Offering the perfect haven for a little R&R.
A small,
Rustic ferry delivers you to the island on a sunny afternoon.
A taxi waits at the most beautiful spot on the island,
Where a dock leads to a simple aquamarine awning and weathered wooden benches worn by the sea,
Weather,
And sun.
The gentle sea breeze and the scent of water instantly wash away all tension.
As you walk down the planks of the pier,
You feel lighter,
As if the trade winds could deliver you like a feather landing on the powdery white sand.
A short ride with the windows open gives a preview of the lush flora and remoteness of the island.
The taxi glides to a stop in front of a small house on a hillside.
The taxi glides to a stop in front of a charming hand-painted sign.
Its whitewashed surface reads,
La Perla Blanca,
Elegantly scripted in vibrant turquoise.
Diego,
The driver,
Wishes you a pleasant stay,
Helping you to remove your weekender bag from the trunk and offering a business card,
Should you wish to tour the island during your stay.
As the taxi peels away,
You approach a narrow trail of soft powdery sand,
Dappled with sunlight filtering through the thick canopy of palms and sea grape trees.
Bursts of coral,
Red,
And fuchsia come from hibiscus and bougainvillea that accent the path.
Their bright petals adding splashes of color to the deep green waxy leaves.
The sounds of the ocean become louder with each step.
The distant call of a coqui frog joins the soothing,
Susurrating sounds of the breeze through the leaves.
As you start down the path,
Your flip-flops clap the soles of your feet and leave their marks in the warm sand.
The path snakes through for a hundred feet or so,
As a Puerto Rican toadie,
Known locally as a San Pedrito,
Flies from a branch overhead.
Its tiny body is not much larger than a hummingbird,
With lime-green feathers and a red-orange patch beneath its long,
Skinny beak.
Its chirps join the playful songs of birds flitting from branch to branch,
Adding a lively soundtrack to your journey,
Welcoming you to this tropical retreat.
The further you walk,
The more present the rhythmic lull of the ocean becomes.
The foliage thickens,
Creating a natural archway of intertwining branches and leaves,
Offering brief moments of shade.
With small slivers giving glimpses of the cerulean sky.
The path widens in a V-shape,
Leading to a clearing,
Where the tawny sand that mixes with the earth becomes a pristine,
Shimmering white blanket.
Nestled just beyond a line of palm trees is La Perla Blanca.
The cottage gleams in the sunlight.
Its whitewashed walls and simple yet elegant design blend into the natural hues of the cove.
Large windows reflect the glittering aquamarine sea,
Offering glimpses of the breathtaking views that await you inside.
The lowering sun shines through the windows,
With glimmering golden light that slices through the cottage.
You take a moment to breathe it all in,
The scent of the ocean.
The warmth of the sun on your skin.
The tranquil beauty of this place.
A deep sense of peace and an even deeper feeling of gratitude make you appreciate every step along the way that led you to this moment.
La Perla Blanca stands before you,
A tropical hideaway on this idyllic beach.
Promising rest,
Relaxation,
And a true escape from the modern world.
It stands as evidence of Lucy's dream coming to life.
A dream she shared with many souls.
Two steps lead from the carpet of white sand and a scattering of salmon-hued seashells to a small porch that wraps around the front of the tiny cottage.
You ascend the stairs and open the glass door,
With views of the sea and cove from every wall in the two-story dwelling.
The turquoise sea stretches out before you,
Visible through the glass walls that invite the outdoors in.
You set your bag in a cozy seating nook and open the windows to create a cross-breeze of sea air.
The sweet,
Lush perfume of frangipani blends with the briny tang of the ocean,
Permeating the cottage.
You detect the distant melody of steel drums playing from a nearby resort just beyond the cove,
Its gentle rhythm joining the sounds of the surf.
Once settled,
You change into your swimsuit to enjoy a quick dip in the ocean before sunset.
Barefoot,
You walk across the cool white sand,
The soft grains rising and tickling between your toes.
The late-day sun casts an orange-gold glow over everything,
Making the world feel warm and inviting.
The sea is lukewarm like a bath,
And you let the silky waves rise over your ankles,
Gradually submerging yourself into the crystal-clear water.
You swim out,
The water rising over your chest gently,
And float on your back,
And float on your back,
Free of the weight of the world,
Of the weight of expectations and day-to-day life.
You simply float,
Losing track of time as the sky erupts in rich swatches of magenta,
Tangerine,
And gold.
A feeling of hunger arrives suddenly,
Taking you out of this luxurious trance,
And you let the incoming tide deliver you back to the beach.
You rise out of the water,
Noticing the air has become a touch cooler,
And walk to an outdoor shower to the north of the cottage.
Bamboo walls offer privacy,
Allowing you to see the ocean and sky as you shower off,
Indulging in the plumeria soap and coconut papaya shampoo.
Refreshed and renewed,
You wrap in a towel kept in a bamboo chest and return inside the cottage to change into loungewear made of breathable,
Flowy fabric.
You gather items from the well-stocked mini-fridge,
Ordered by Lucy in advance,
To reflect your personal preferences and local island favorites.
You ascend a white spiral staircase that leads to the cottage's roof deck,
Where you are met with a panoramic view of the endless ocean cast in the rich reds and purples of sunset.
On the roof deck,
You fire up a small charcoal grill and place slices of pineapple and your other selections on the grill.
You sip coconut water from a bamboo straw and a fresh coconut Lucy left for you,
Appreciating the refreshing taste and soothing liquid as it travels down your throat.
Once your meal is done,
You settle in an aquamarine chair by a white cafe table and watch the palm trees sway gently along the beach.
In the distance,
You hear the clinking of glasses and soft laughter from the resort just beyond the palms.
A reminder that you're not completely alone,
Yet secluded enough to feel as though you have paradise to yourself.
Your simple meal gives you a sense of pride,
The joy of preparing something in a setting this beautiful feels celebratory.
You made this moment happen.
As you eat,
You watch the horizon as the sky deepens into bands of violet,
Indigo,
And blue and reflects on the aquamarine waves that unfold beyond the sand.
When the meal is finished,
You linger on the roof deck until the first stars begin to twinkle,
Their light mirrored by the calm sea below.
You ignite the tabletop fire pit,
Mesmerized as the flames flicker and dance within the glass enclosure.
Their warm glow glows mirrored in the reflective surfaces.
You take pleasure in knowing that,
Despite the cottage's modest size,
Every detail has been thoughtfully and meticulously considered by Lucy.
Even in a simple,
Small dwelling,
You can feel like you have it all.
Contentment fills you,
The island's tranquility settling deep into your bones.
As night falls,
You descend the exterior spiral staircase and return inside the cozy cottage below.
The soft rustle of palm fronds and gently crashing surf bring on a wave of sleepiness.
Inside,
A handcrafted chandelier of dozens of pearly seashells dangling with fairy lights casts the cottage in a warm,
Golden glow as a gentle cross breeze causes the chandelier to sway.
The seashells produce a soft,
Melodic clatter,
Reminiscent of a wind chime's soothing music.
Your feet become heavy as you approach the bed,
Nestled in the back of the cottage on the oceanside.
You pull back the ivory duvet and aqua blue sheets to settle atop the queen bed.
As your head sinks into a pile of pillows,
You feel the gentle vibrations in the sand of the waves crashing on the shore.
You watch as a crescent moon rises over the sea as silver light ripples in the ocean.
The soothing sounds of the island night,
A chorus of waves,
Rustling palm fronds,
And a distant,
Coky frog help you transition to a night of dreamy sleep.
In Lucy's oasis,
The Perla Blanca,
Dreams become reality.
And with a grateful heart and still mind,
You gently float,
Giving in to the kind undertow of sleepiness that takes hold.
The continuous beauty around you gives the promise of the dreams it will mold in the night.
And so you give in to slumber,
Finding serenity,
Finding beauty,
Finding peace.
Finding peace.
It's time to dream away.
Good night.

Michelle, I was so excited to see you had a new bedtime story to listen to. Of course I didnβt get to far into the story and fell fast asleep! Only got up once at 4:30 am, & then listened again. Played it when the alarm went off this morning. Your description was so inviting, that I could imagine myself there in this beautiful piece of paradise. Thank you kindly for this wonderful bedtime story! Going to be repeating many times as it was a restful escape that I could truly imagine myself being there! ππππππ€π€π€π€π€
