
Guided Meditation to Relieve Anxiety and Overhwelm
The rush of anxiety and overwhelm can quickly take over our experience of the world. Being equipped with the tools to ease that experience is central to living in the Adult Chair. Let us journey.
Transcript
This is a mindfulness meditation for anxiety and overwhelm.
Take a moment and allow yourself to get comfortable with your feet on the floor and your palms in your lap.
Begin by taking a nice slow inhale and bring as much breath as you can into your body.
Holding it in for a moment and then very slowly releasing the breath.
Allow your breath to come more fully into your body.
Notice your breath filling up your entire being.
Your whole body is beginning to respond as you breathe and relax.
Take another deep breath.
Everything is slowing down.
Your body is going into deeper and deeper relaxation with every breath you take.
And breathe again and notice your body beginning to flow with your breath in and out.
Bring your attention to your feet on the floor.
Locate the bottoms of your feet to open and connect to the earth.
Tune into your feet and notice any sensations.
Perhaps you feel a tingling,
A warmth,
Cool,
Maybe nothing and that's fine too.
Allow the energy to flow from you to the earth and from the earth to you.
Attaching and anchoring you to the earth,
Grounding you to the magnificent energy of mother earth and breathe.
Now allow your awareness to tune into your body.
We must go to the parts that feel uncomfortable to transform them.
Go to the parts within your body that feel stressed,
Tight,
Constricted or uncomfortable.
Travel with your awareness there and just notice.
Get curious about these parts within you.
Become an observer of them just for a moment.
Notice if anything changes just by giving it your attention.
Next,
Notice how your body is responding to your breath.
Allow your body to move and flow with your breath.
In your mind's eye,
Imagine seaweed at the bottom of a shallow river with a very slow current.
See the water gently flowing and almost dancing with the seaweed.
It flows back and forth and sideways.
It moves beautifully and gracefully with the water.
Like the seaweed moving with the gently flowing water,
Allow your body to flow in the same way with your breath.
Your breath is flowing through your body very gently and expansively,
Moving your body as it flows through.
And if your body wants to move or flow even more than your breath,
Let it do so now.
Let it move back and forth or side to side.
Let the natural rhythms of your breath move your body,
Allow it to flow.
Tuning now back into any tightness in your body,
Notice how with the flowing of your breath combined with your relaxed moving body,
The tightness,
Overwhelm,
And anxieties of the body begin to loosen their grip and soften.
Allow them to detach from the body and slip into the beautiful current flowing through your body that is being created with your breath.
As your breath comes in through your nose,
It travels through your body and loosens the stuck energy and emotions clinging to your insides and moves them down through your chest,
Legs and out through your feet into the earth.
This happens easily and effortlessly.
Feel the flow of this now.
Breathe out these uncomfortable feelings inside and let them travel through you down into mother earth.
This current inside of you is your natural flow.
It's the natural flow of life force energy coming through you.
Anxiety,
Overwhelm,
Stress,
And panic are all created through the mind.
When we allow ourselves to step into this flow of energy,
We reconnect into something bigger than us,
This unconditionally loving source.
When we connect with this energy and merge into the flow of this beautiful loving source energy,
Our stress seems to melt away.
We slide into the moment and become aware of new solutions to our stresses and anxieties.
We find answers to our problems.
Ironically,
When we are stressed,
We disconnect from the very thing that can bring us comfort and instead rely on the mind to figure out our problems.
This is a hefty job for the mind alone and it can overwhelm the mind,
Which is where our stress is birthed.
By staying in the flow and connecting with this magnificent light,
We move into the moment and experience love,
Wisdom,
And peace.
And our stress,
Overwhelm,
Anxieties,
And panic begin to flow away for they cannot exist simultaneously with the abundance of love that is coming from this source of light.
Experience this light now.
Feel it.
See it.
Know that it's running through your body like a gentle current in a river,
Filling up every crevice in your body,
Coming from above you through your entire being and connecting you down into the earth.
This beautiful light flushes away down through you any doubt,
Stress,
Overwhelm,
Or anxiety.
This light anchors you in the space of presence,
Peace,
Knowing,
And wisdom.
Take a deep breath.
Stay here in this space as long as you wish.
Bask in this light,
Your light.
And when you are ready,
Open your eyes and come back,
Feeling refreshed,
Cleansed,
Lighter,
And free.

This meditation has been crucial for me, while I'm go through a difficult season of life. I love listening to it daily. The visualization of the river and seaweed and then the Earth's energy really help me. The cadence of voice, volume of voice and music are all perfect for me--one doesn't overpower the other. My only wish is that the music at the end played longer while I'm in the relaxed state. :-) But overall, I come out of this meditation feeling less anxious and stressed.
