This is an exercise in self-acceptance.

Remember,

Whatever you resist persists.

Whatever you accept will heal.

Acceptance is part of love,

And only love heals.

It is your judgment that makes you hold on to an unpleasant thought about yourself.

Say to yourself,

It's time to be free now.

Take a few deep breaths.

Recall a time when you experienced yourself acting or thinking in a way that you cannot accept.

Something you would be ashamed to admit to another.

Perhaps it was hatred,

A desire to hurt another.

Maybe it's something about yourself you dislike.

For example,

Sadness,

Weakness,

Cowardice,

Etc.

Bring it to mind,

And use one word to describe it.

Feel where you hold this pain in your body.

Thought in your mind will be mirrored in a place in your body.

If you can,

Place an accepting hand on the pain.

Put your chosen word in the following sentence,

And repeat the sentence a few times over to yourself.

The sentence is,

I accept this feeling of,

Put in your word,

It does not have to go away or change.

It's part of me.

I accept it.

As you start to repeat this sentence,

You will feel resistance,

Possibly.

Ignore this,

And continue to repeat the sentence.

I accept this feeling of,

It does not have to go away or change.

It's part of me.

I accept it.

Perhaps you will smile a little at yourself after a few repetitions.

Now see the feeling as a small distressed child.

It may want to talk to you.

Listen to its story.

Why you created it.

Why you keep it.

Just listen to its story.

You can comfort it.

Hold it.

Pick it up.

And place it against your chest.

Dry its eyes.

Try and love and accept it the way it is.

And continue listening to its story.

Are you willing to release what this child symbolises?

Ready to let this child go?

If you're not yet ready to release it,

See it grows small enough to put it into your heart,

And place it there.

Look down on it with acceptance,

And one day you will be able to release it.

But if you are ready to release the child,

And what it symbolises,

Ask for your guide,

Your helpers,

To come and lovingly take it away with them.

The child is happy to see them and be with them.

See the child leave you as it goes off with the helpers,

And thank the child for what it gave you.

In the place in the body where you felt that pain,

See a beautiful light come down,

And fill that area of the body with healing light.

When you're ready,

Bring yourself back to the room,

And open your eyes.
