Welcome to Origins Curriculum Guided Meditation.
We are so glad you are here.
Before we begin,
We invite you to find a quiet space to settle your body.
We suggest a space that is peaceful and grounding,
One that creates a calming environment.
After we have found a comfortable space,
We sit and allow our minds to slow down and our bodies to find a rhythm with our breath.
We inhale through our nose and exhale through our mouth.
We take some time to tune in with ourselves,
Relaxing our legs,
Our arms and shoulders,
Our neck,
Face,
Jaw and forehead,
Releasing further with each breath.
This week we will practice gratitude for where we come from and how we got to this present moment.
We give thanks for our ancestors and to our lineages.
We give thanks to the present as we create the future.
We give thanks to the future because it is the result of our living.
We as a group and a collective make up our communities.
We as a people,
As human beings,
Are interconnected with the world.
We can always build upon this meditation through additional activities like putting pins on a map where each student's family originated.
This way we can see from a bird's eye view where we all come from.
We can build upon our knowledge of one another as we share our experiences,
Family dynamics and traditions.
It also might be helpful to draw things out so we can envision them.
We can create while we listen or sew stitches or tie knots or anything that is a process of connecting and creating a line.
We'll do this to create a line of gratitude that stems from our ancestors through us and all the way into the future generations.
Please feel free to pause this meditation and gather the materials that you need.
Let's begin our practice.
Please take a few deep breaths in and out.
Inhale and exhale.
Expand and contract.
We'll ground ourselves in this space by tapping into our senses.
Out loud or silently to ourselves,
We will list five things we see.
Four things we hear.
Three things we feel.
Two things that we can smell.
And one thing that we can taste.
In this safe space,
We are connected.
We are here with the same intention to strengthen our awareness and empower ourselves so that we can create lives rooted in balance and wellness.
As we paint a picture,
A line of ancestry,
Of lineage,
Of interconnection,
And of life,
Feel free to create via the previously mentioned tasks,
Something that represents a line.
If you are not actively practicing a task alongside this meditation,
You can simply close your eyes and envision.
We'll begin where we are now.
First envisioning ourselves.
Here you can make a mark or not.
We stand on a timeline.
As we look to our right,
We see what is before us.
And as we look to our left,
We see what is ahead.
We stand and give thanks for the present.
We give thanks for the past and what it teaches us.
And we give thanks for a promising future.
As we look to our right,
We see our ancestors and we are grateful.
If they wouldn't have been born or had the experiences they had,
We in turn wouldn't be here.
As we look to the right,
We see our great grandparents and we are grateful.
Because if they hadn't lived,
We wouldn't exist.
As we look to the right,
We see our grandparents and we are grateful.
Because they lived,
So did our parents and so do we.
As we look to our right,
We see our ancestors and we are grateful.
If they wouldn't have been born or had the experiences they had,
We in turn wouldn't be here.
You can make a mark or a not here.
As we look to the right,
We see our great grandparents and we are grateful.
Because if they hadn't lived,
We wouldn't exist.
You can make a mark or a not.
As we look to the right,
We see our grandparents and we are grateful.
Because they lived,
So did our parents and so do we.
You can make a mark or a not.
As we look to the right,
We see our parents and we are grateful.
Because without them,
We wouldn't be alive.
You can make a mark or a not.
As we stand in the present and witness ourselves,
We are grateful.
Because we are the culmination of our ancestry and lineage.
Without the past,
The present wouldn't exist and without the present,
The future would be impossible to create.
We can make a mark or a not for ourselves.
Now,
As we look to the left and see future children and their children and their children,
We are grateful because they wouldn't exist without us.
We have a responsibility in making change now so that we all have a promising future tomorrow.
You can make a mark or a not here.
We are grateful and our gratitude goes beyond I and me,
Blooming into we.
To conclude our meditation,
We'll place a hand on our hearts and a hand on our bellies and breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth.
With a grateful heart,
We can continue with our day.
Namaste.
The light in me sees the light in you.
We thank you for meditating with us.
Namaste.
