It is a quirk of our minds that not every emotion we carry is fully acknowledged,
Understood,
Or even truly felt.
Negative experiences add up.
Microaggressions may seem small,
Micro,
When dealt with one by one.
But when repeated over time,
They can have a major impact on your mental and physical health.
It hurts to leave things unprocessed.
The following is an exercise to acknowledge and overcome the little shots the people around us have fired,
And let them actually fade away like we intended.
In a situation where it's best to step away to process,
We like to write hot letters to the transgressor.
If you don't have journaling materials available,
Now is the time to go get them.
Feel free to pause in the middle of this exercise in order to take notes.
The text from this track is also available for reference.
Ready?
Okay.
So,
Pick up your pen and paper.
We're going to write a letter to the transgressor from the position of I.
This is not a moment to hold back.
No one will ever read this except for you,
Unless you want them to.
Start your letter by addressing it directly to them.
Dear,
Now tell them what happened.
What did they say or do?
Under what circumstances did they say it?
What was happening in the environment?
Tell them what they said and how that made you feel.
Let it be raw and real.
Where in your body did you feel this feeling?
How did your body physically react?
What consequences did their actions have on you and on your life?
Now read through it and edit it as if the person you were writing this to were about to read it.
And read it out loud.
Do you want to make any edits?
