Silence is the language of God,
A quote by Rumi.
This is a day for Rumi's reflections.
Silence is the language of God.
Silence is a space where clarity arise.
So,
You see,
We consume more input than any generation before us right now in this 21st century that we're living in.
We're scrolling,
We're talking,
We're reacting,
We're engaging all the time.
So,
Silence now has become It's something that we have to consciously and intentionally create space for.
Why is silence important?
More than ever,
It's because in silence,
You notice what's actually yours.
Not the stories,
Not the drama,
Not the influence from the input you've been consuming from social media,
From the television,
From newspapers,
From magazines,
From books,
Even from the radio.
In silence,
You can differentiate between what's really yours and what is a story that's been shared with you about somebody else's perspective or point of view.
Silence is where you notice what is anxiety.
Silence is where you notice what is your intuition.
Without silence,
Everything just becomes a mosh pit.
Everything is mixed up.
Everything is like this big cooking pot of ingredients,
Some yours,
Some not.
Thoughts,
Ideas,
Emotions,
All mixed together.
Without silence,
Everything becomes messy.
Not the good kind of messy,
But the confused kind of messy.
So try this as a practice to start inviting silence into your life again.
Three minutes,
Set a timer.
Ironically,
Because in these three minutes,
Once you set the timer,
Your commitment is to not have your phone,
To not have any music playing,
And to simply sit.
So make sure you prep well.
Get a lot of cushions to prop you or on the sofa or on the floor.
You can move if you need to,
But the intention is for three minutes you sit without a phone and without any music and you sit in silence.
And during the silence,
Notice your breath.
Notice your tension.
Are your shoulders up to your ears?
Is your brow furrowed?
Are you clenching your jaw?
And finally,
Notice your thoughts.
If it helps,
Close your eyes and just simply notice,
Observe your thoughts like words or images on a cloud.
Sky of your mind just passing through.
Just notice.
Only in three minutes.
No fixing,
No judging.
No trying to change.
Just like watching a movie of your mind.
Observe.
You want to go deeper with this.
Here's a journal prompt.
After you practice this three minutes,
Ask yourself,
What did I notice when everything was quiet?
What did I see?
What did I hear?
What did I feel?
What did I sense when everything was quiet?
And if you want to deepen that awareness,
Underwrite the journal practice with this song,
Saturn,
Sleeping at Last.
And I'll share it in the caption for you.
It holds a space for deep contemplation in a way that's truly expansive.
Thank you,
Rumi,
For this beautiful quote that's inspired today.
Silence is the language of God.
It's the language where the truth of who you are gets to rise and speak.
See you tomorrow for Day 5.
