Today,
We are going to do a body scan.
These scans can be so good for those moments where your brain just can't stop or you're feeling completely overwhelmed with emotion or overridden with anxiety.
Body scans allow you to come back into the moment and slowly ease down the nervous system by noticing what's going on,
Right here,
Right now.
Let's begin.
Find a place to lie down or sit.
Whatever feels kind to your body today.
There's no perfect posture.
Just somewhere you can let your weight go.
Let your eyes close.
Or rest them low and unfocused on the floor.
Before we begin to travel through the body.
Take one slow breath in through your nose.
And a longer breath out through your mouth.
Like a PSI.
Let it be audible if it wants to be.
Breathe in slowly.
And let it all go.
There's nothing to fix here.
Nothing to get right.
We're simply going to notice.
With a little curiosity.
And a lot of kindness.
Bring your attention gently to the very top of your head.
Notice whatever's there.
Warmth.
Tingling.
Or nothing much at all.
There's no right answer.
Just what's true,
Right now.
And let your attention begin to travel down.
Slowly.
Like warm water.
Into your face.
Place we hold so much.
Soften the space between your eyebrows.
Unclench your jaw.
Let your tongue rest.
Let your whole face be at ease,
As if you were just about to fall asleep.
Let that softening flow down into your neck.
Your throat.
And into your shoulders.
Let them drop away from your ears.
Let them be heavy.
If your mind has wandered off somewhere.
That's okay.
That's what minds do.
Just gently bring it back to the body.
No telling off.
Simply,
Ah,
There you are.
And back we come.
Notice your chest.
Rising and falling by itself.
You don't have to do anything.
Your body already knows how to breathe you.
Let your attention spill down your arms.
Your upper arms,
Your elbows,
Your forearms,
All the way to your hands.
Feel each finger.
Let them uncurl.
Let them be soft.
Come now to your belly.
Let it rise and fall on its own.
Without pulling it in.
Feel your back.
All the way down your spine.
One gentle breath at a time.
And your hips and lower back.
A place where we so often carry the weight of the day without knowing it.
See if you can let it all be supported.
You don't have to hold yourself up right now.
The ground has you.
Let the softening continue down through your thighs,
The backs of your knees,
Your calves,
Your ankles.
All the way down to your feet.
Let them grow heavy like warm water settling into the ground.
And now,
For a moment,
Let go of the parts.
Feel your whole body at once.
From the top of your head.
All the way down to your feet.
The weight of you held by the earth.
Just here.
Just breathing.
Just alive.
Whatever you were carrying when you arrived.
Notice if it feels even a little softer now.
And if it doesn't?
That's okay too.
You showed up.
That's enough.
Take one more slow,
Deep breath in.
And out.
Know that this,
This steadiness,
This quiet,
Is always here.
Your breath.
Your body.
This moment.
You can come back to it anytime you need to.
Start to bring some gentle movement back.
Wiggle your fingers and your toes.
Maybe a small stretch if that feels good.
And when you're ready.
In your own time.
Let your eyes open.
Your hair.
You came back.
Well done.
Go gently.
