Can I ask you a question?
When was the last time?
You rest in peace.
Not because you were sick.
Not because you finished everything on your list.
Cause you and I know that's never gonna happen.
Not because you had finally earned it.
Simply because you were.
I have to admit,
This has been one of the hardest lessons of my own life.
For years,
I believed rest was a reward.
You worked hard enough,
You checked enough boxes,
You accomplished enough,
And then.
.
.
You are allowed to slow down.
That was my belief.
The problem is.
.
.
The list.
Never end.
There's always one more email,
One more project,
One more person who needed something.
And before I knew it,
I had trained myself to believe that my were.
Live.
Somewhere on my to-do list.
Maybe you've been there too.
If you have,
Let me know in the comments.
I think so many of us.
Quietly lived this way without even realizing it.
Here's what finally made me stop.
One day I realized I wasn't resting because I felt peaceful.
I was resting because my body was resting.
Had forced the decision.
Exhaustion became the only thing that gave me permission and that is not rest.
That is recovery,
And there's a difference.
Recovery happens after we've ignored ourselves.
Rise,
Tap.
Because we're listening.
That realization changed everything for me.
Now?
And still work hard.
I still care deeply.
But I'm practicing something different.
I'm learning to pause before my body starts waving red flags.
I'm learning that rest is part of the work.
Not something that happens after the war.
And honestly.
I'm still practicing this.
Some days I catch myself thinking I'll sit down after I finish One more thing.
Sound familiar?
What if that one thing could wait?
What if your value today has absolutely nothing?
Nothing at all to do with what you accomplished.
What if your nervous system didn't need to earn money?
Kindness.
I want to leave you with one.
Simple question.
If rest.
Was no longer a reward.
What would you do today?
What would you do?
You don't have to answer right away.
Notice what comes up.
And if something does come up.
Let me know in the comments.
I read all the comments because your stories often remind me.
Of myself.
And your stories will remind somebody else that they aren't alone.
Here's what I hope you remember.
You are not a machine.
You are not a productivity project.
You.
Are a human being.
And human beings are designed to breathe in,
And breathe out.
To engage.
And recover.
To create.
And rest.
You don't earn your next breath.
You simply receive it.
Maybe.
Rest is the same.
And maybe today you can give yourself permission.
To stop earning something that has always been.
Always.
Belong to you.
Because peace is not a prize at the finish line.
It is something you are allowed to experience right here,
Right now,
In this moment.
In this moment.
Is always right and perfect.
Not because you finished everything,
But because this moment offers another opportunity to return.
Return to your breath.
Return to your body.
Return to yourself.
At that.
Is enough.
