Lesson 1

Introduction: Calm In The Chaos

In this introductory lesson, I cover the concept of nervous system regulation and why it's so important to understand as a business owner. I review what I'll cover during this four-day course, including identifying your nervous system states, selecting a few practices to help you return to a state of calm, and a guided visualization you can use to ground your energy. Note: If you are experiencing trauma or chronic stress, please reach out to a professional trained in trauma release or therapy, as the exercises in this course may not be sufficient for your individual situation. Lesson 2

Understanding Your Nervous System States

In this lesson, I discuss Dr. Stephen W. Porges' Polyvagal Theory, where he explains that there are three main nervous system states: ventral vagal, sympathetic, and dorsal vagal. I explain how these states may be triggered by everyday business activities, such as public speaking or promoting yourself. I also cover the concept of mirror neurons, which is helpful to understand if you're working directly with clients. Music by Tomomi Kato from Pixabay **Polyvagal Theory: Porges, S. W. (2018). Lesson 3

Nervous System Regulation Toolkit

In this lesson, I share a few tools you can add to your nervous system regulation toolkit to help you return to a state of calm whenever you feel a bit dysregulated. I also share a few things I do to regulate my nervous system "in the moment"—when working with clients, before a presentation, or during another speaking opportunity, such as appearing on a podcast. Iyengar's 1966 book, Light on Yoga. Both Jois and Iyengar were pupils of Tirumalai Krishnamacharya.

Lesson 4

Guided Grounding Practice

In the final lesson of the course, I guide you through a simple meditation and visualization that will help you ground yourself to the Earth through an ancient practice called "earthing." By connecting your feet to the Earth, you allow your energy to flow downward instead of staying stuck in your head, promoting a sense of well-being and calm. Music by Viacheslav Starostin from Pixabay ***Earthing or grounding has unclear roots (pun intended!). It most likely came from our ancestors who walked barefoot on the Earth. One of the early founders of naturopathy, Adolf Just, popularized this practice in his book, "Return to Nature!" in the late 1800s.
