Markus Myō-on Mars

Markus Myō-on Mars is a non-binary meditation facilitator and sound artist based in Hawai'i, blending profound mindfulness practices with immersive soundscapes composed on a 5-string electric violin. Their meditation journey spans diverse traditions, including Vipassanā meditation in Nepal, Sōtō Zen practice at the Daifukuji Sōtō Mission (where they received the Buddhist name Myō-on, meaning "Wondrous Sound"), and studies in Engaged Buddhism within the Plum Village tradition founded by Thích Nhất Hạnh. Markus has studied mindfulness with renowned teachers such as Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, and Jon Kabat-Zinn and incorporates sound-guided meditations inspired by these teachings. As the founder of the Choice Awareness series, Markus leads reflective, sound-guided sessions addressing sustainability, interconnectedness, and inner peace. Their work invites participants to explore mindfulness through sound, flow, and stillness, fostering a deeper connection to themselves and the world.
