This guided meditation is a live recording from day 5 of a 7 day online retreat based on the 16 steps of mindfulness of breathing. It invites the listener to firstly become present, then to relax all bodily tension. Then, the invitation is to turn awareness to the knowing of experience, awareness of awareness, which is deeply peaceful. The sounds of birds in the background are part of the meditation experience.

Awareness of awareness.

So settle back into your body,

Into your posture,

Come into presence in your body,

Settling,

Perhaps grounding in the experience of the earth element beneath you,

Holding you,

Supporting you.

And rouse an intention for this practice,

Bringing a posture of your mind,

A position of your mind,

The direction of your attention and awareness.

And put aside worries and concerns,

Roles and responsibilities.

Seclude yourself from the hindrances and become present,

Just here now.

And using whatever works to bring you into this moment,

To rest in presence,

Whether it be being mindful of your body,

Earth element or sensations in your body in general,

Or whether it be sounds that you're hearing,

Whatever it is,

Bring your body,

Heart,

Mind into just being here,

Now.

And as you come into this present moment,

You may notice that your body begins to relax,

Let your body relax,

Relaxing whatever tension you're feeling in your face,

Letting it relax,

Let go of tension,

Letting go of tension around your shoulders,

Letting go of tension around your arms,

Biceps,

Forearms,

Hands,

Letting go of tension around the top of your torso,

Down,

Midsection of your torso,

Lower back and abdomen.

And perhaps you may notice the breathing in the background,

Simply let the breathing be and help you perhaps relax,

Letting go on the out-breath,

Buttocks,

Thighs,

Calves,

Feet,

Simply letting go,

Letting go of tension,

Letting go of thoughts that seem to come into your mind,

Thoughts,

Mental experiences,

Phenomena,

Let them come and just simply let them go.

And you're invited now to be aware of the knowing of experience,

That knowing,

Like doing a U-turn with consciousness or awareness,

Not going out there to be aware of the world outside,

But resting back,

Simply in that knowing,

Deeply relaxing into that,

Just knowing,

Like going into the still depths of a clear lake,

Quiet and still,

Unruffled.

On the surface there may be wind moving the surface of the lake around,

But down deep,

Deep,

Past the ruffled surface,

The surface that's whipped around,

Past that,

Deep,

Perhaps deep into your heart,

Deep into your heart mind,

It's quiet,

Still,

Luminous perhaps,

No movement,

Don't struggle to stay there,

But just let go and relax and rest in this awareness.

Remember that when your mind goes out into the world,

It is just mind,

You're conscious of just mind,

Boundless,

Spacious,

Just,

Knowing,

Rest in the knowing,

Rest in awareness.
