Today I want to share with you a meditation that may help you to reimagine your past.
Sometimes things in our lives happen that we wish hadn't happened or that we wish we could have reacted differently.
This meditation enables us to reimagine some of the most difficult moments in our lives and give ourselves what we needed in that moment.
So for this meditation I recommend that you actually don't pick something that was highly traumatic,
Something that you would consider a 10,
But something maybe that you would consider a 3 or a 4,
Something that was kind of a minor annoyance or you wish something would have happened differently.
This is the meditation to get you accustomed to giving yourself what you need in the moment.
What we're going to do is to imagine a compassionate loving being who's going to give us what we needed in the moment when we had this challenging event.
I'm going to invite you to close your eyes and put your hand on your heart for another soothing place and we're going to take 3 deep breaths in and out for the count of 3.
So breathing in,
Out,
In,
Out,
In,
Out.
Now I want you to think of a challenging thing that happened in your life,
Whether it be recently or whether it be in childhood.
I want you to imagine this challenging event now.
I want you to think about what was there,
What happened,
Who was there,
What did the person say or do.
So think about the challenging aspect of the interaction.
Did someone say or do something hurtful or were they unable to be there for you when you most needed them?
What did I really wish had happened in this moment?
Did I need to be held,
To be seen or acknowledged?
Did I need to be praised or loved?
I want you to think to yourself.
What did I need in this moment?
Now in the distance I want you to imagine a loving or compassionate friend.
It could be someone that you know from your past,
Somebody that you know currently or a being such as an angel.
Now your compassionate friend comes closer and closer to you and you invite them to come next to you.
Your compassionate friend already knows everything about you and knows what you need in this moment.
Your compassionate friend is here to support you through this challenging moment.
Did you need a hug?
Did you need to be told you were lovable and worthy?
Did you need to feel safe and supported?
Tell your compassionate friend what you need in this moment as you remember this challenge.
Allow your compassionate friend to give you what you need in this moment.
You can also ask yourself,
What else do I need in this moment?
Your compassionate friend knows exactly what to offer you.
Allow your compassionate friend to give that to you now.
Your compassionate friend is always here for you whenever you need them.
You can ask one more time of yourself,
What do I need in this moment?
You can allow your compassionate friend to be there for you.
Allow yourself to really,
Really accept this gift of love and compassion.
Now,
It's time to say goodbye to your compassionate friend.
You can thank your compassionate friend for always being there for you and for showing up today in this manner.
Your compassionate friend reminds you that they're always here for you.
As you wave goodbye,
Allow yourself to rest in the safety and the ease and the grace of the gifts you received today.
Now when you're ready to go back to the room,
I want you to put your hand on your heart again for another soothing place.
And I want you to breathe three times.
Breathing in,
Out,
In,
Out,
In,
Out.
We all have circumstances that we wish had happened differently.
Through the support of your compassionate friend,
You can give yourself what you needed to reimagine your past.
