Light In The Cave Of The Heart Meditation
by Lynn Fraser
We begin with relaxing our physical body then go directly into awareness of the energy field and the three chakras - eyebrow, throat and heart. We visualize walking into the bright airy spacious cave of the heart and meditating with the brilliant white light of the True Self radiating through the whole space and energy field.

This particular meditation is the cave of the heart.
So we're going into our physical body for a moment just to get kind of located.
And then we're going into the heart chakra.
And then if you have a visual mind,
We're gonna actually bring ourselves visually into this beautiful,
Bright,
Open,
Spacious cave of the heart.
If you don't,
Then it'll be something else.
It'll be a felt sense or something like that.
That's all fine.
So that's the roadmap.
And what happens at least briefly when we do something like that is there is no daily life in the cave of the heart.
This is our spiritual heart center,
Our heart chakra.
It's not our physical heart.
Our body is in this space that we're in,
But we're not focusing on that.
We're focusing on the interior,
The heart chakra,
What's happening in there.
So sometimes it's a little bit easier to let go of troubling thoughts,
But also the mind has a lot of persistence and a lot of commitment to making us aware of what's going on.
So if you notice that there's thoughts that are coming into your mind,
Just come back through the process and come back into the cave of the heart.
So notice your whole body,
Head to toes.
Meditations are traditionally done sitting,
And you,
Of course,
Can do it in whatever way is comfortable for you.
There's a lot of deeper energetic reasons for sitting,
But one of the reasons it's more practical is that we sometimes fall asleep when we're lying down if there's a long period of silence.
Staying awake is a bit easier when we're sitting.
But also when we're sitting,
If we're not comfortable,
We can be spending a lot of time really focusing on what's not comfortable.
Let yourself know what's the best thing for you to do right now.
Adjust your body,
Allow yourself to be comfortable.
Notice your feet,
Your seat.
You might hold your hands or take a few deep breaths.
Notice what that feels like.
Those are all ways that we can orient into our body.
Now we're gonna move into the chakra system.
So first,
The energy field.
The space that our body is occupying is an energy field.
And in that energy field,
Our sensations,
Feelings,
Energies,
We're gonna move our awareness away from our physical body,
Even though it's in the same space,
And into the chakra system,
The energy field.
We're gonna start with the ajna chakra,
The eyebrow center.
Bring your awareness into that space.
It's just behind your physical forehead,
Just above your eyebrows.
Let yourself be located there.
Notice that you're aware of that chakra.
This is also the space where the brain is located.
And so there's a thought stream that's also here.
But we're going deeper than the thought stream.
We're turning our awareness away from that surface layer of the mind.
We're going into the energy field in the ajna chakra,
The eyebrow center.
You can notice your breath as though you're breathing in and out through that energy center.
If that doesn't work for you,
Don't worry about it.
Just bring your attention there.
Let yourself rest there.
And on an exhalation,
Let your awareness flow down to your throat center,
Vishuddhi chakra.
Often the visual here is a brilliant white full moon.
Breathe in and out through your throat center,
Through that white light of the full moon.
Let your mind be settled and coming really into the energy field.
And let everything else be in the background.
Let the energy field be what you're focusing on.
We're giving the mind something to do which helps with that focus.
It helps us move into the energy field rather than being kind of more absorbed in the thought stream.
That breathing in and out through the throat center,
Vishuddhi chakra.
And then bring your attention now on your next exhale down to the heart center,
The heart chakra,
Anahata chakra.
And imagine that you're breathing in and out through your heart center.
And let your attention rest there for a moment in the heart chakra.
And as we're working with the visual now of going into the heart chakra,
The cave of the heart,
Oftentimes when we visualize something,
The visual happens more in the brain or in front of the body somewhere.
Bring your attention and allow your attention to be located in the area where your heart chakra is.
And imagine that you're walking into this beautiful cave of the heart.
It's right in that space where your heart chakra is located.
It's a bright,
Airy cave.
And as you're walking into that cave,
There's a bright light at the center.
Let yourself walk towards that light and sit in meditation in front of that light.
And bring your awareness right into the heart chakra,
Where the cave of the heart is located.
And in this cave of the heart,
There's this brilliant white light of the true self.
It's radiating out into the whole space.
And see yourself seated there for meditation.
Let your body be relaxed and steady.
Let your mind become absorbed in this beautiful light radiating out from the center of the cave of the heart.
You might be aware of sensations in your body,
Aware of your breath.
Let your awareness stay focused,
That you're sitting in meditation in your heart chakra in this beautiful,
Bright,
Open,
Airy space,
The cave of the heart.
And then there's this brilliant white light of the true self radiating through that whole space.
Let yourself stay focused,
Tuned to that stillness.
Let your mind be still.
Sometimes our focus is drawn out of the energy field into the physical body and into the thoughts in the brain.
If that's happening,
That's okay.
Just bring your attention back.
In that space that's protected by the rib cage,
There's the heart chakra.
Shift your awareness from the physical heart center to the heart chakra and into the cave of the heart.
Visualize or have that felt sense of sitting in that beautiful,
Bright,
Open,
Airy cave of the heart,
That radiating pure white light from the center,
Filling the whole space of your body.
Your mind absorbed in stillness.
It's natural for the thoughts to come into the foreground sometimes.
And then we could allow the stillness to move into the foreground.
That felt sense or that visual of our body sitting in meditation,
That radiant,
Brilliant white,
Pure light radiating out to fill the whole space.
Everything else is way in the background.
And over and over,
We can bring our attention back into the stillness.
Let the whole space be filled with that light.
Let that light radiate out to fill the whole entire space.
Cave of the heart,
The physical body,
The space around your body.
Breathing the light into your nostrils,
Into your chest,
Your lungs.
Taking a few deeper breaths,
Breathing out the light,
The whole space,
The whole energy field filled with light.
And allow yourself to be here for one last moment in the heart,
The cave of the heart.
And then see yourself standing and walking back out of the cave without turning your back to that light at the center.
And then let your awareness start to flow from the heart chakra through the Vishuddhi chakra,
The throat center,
Up to the Ajna chakra,
The eyebrow center.
Exhale and inhale up and down that channel of light.
Let your whole energy field suffused with this radiant white light.
And then allowing your awareness to flow from the eyebrow center through the nostrils to the base of the nose and back.
Notice your breath,
Begin to notice your body,
Make a bit of movement,
Your hands,
Your feet,
Your stretch a little bit.
Our bodies are in this field of energy and the chakras.
And what we focus on can be that field of energy and that brilliant white light that radiates out through the whole space,
The whole field.
And then we come out of it and we look around and we get into more of a physical body experience again and the thoughts in our brain.
But dip back into that if you can through the day just to remember that this is true too.
This is here as well.
Thank you.

A different way to access stillness that was very effective for me. Plenty of silence to practice and no annoying background music! Very enjoyable

Loved this! I am on vacation in Newfoundland and sitting looking over the still pond out back while meditating. Perfect timing as I calm to listen to next steps after losing my job and personal partner Thanks Lynn
