The topic we deal with in this commentary is of utmost importance. Desire is a strong source of suffering, in order to reach some level of detachment we need to reach a state whose impact in our organism overshadow the other stimuli.

In this story that Sri Ramakrishna used to tell,

The kite represents us and the fish our desires.

Desire is part of our life,

And the moment it is in tune with our needs or our mission in life,

It is something very healthy and organic.

The problem is when it is the result of our past habits,

Our conditioning.

In these cases,

Which are quite frequent,

The desire governs us.

The desire generates a gap between an unsatisfactory present and an idealized future,

Generating unhappiness and restlessness.

And as we identify with what we desire,

Worry,

Fear,

Anxiety,

Frustration and emotions of the like may appear.

Let's have a look at our kite.

It tries its best to get rid of the crows.

Not for a second it contemplates getting rid of its desire.

In fact,

It can't let it go.

It is possessed by its capture,

Although it is not aware of this fact.

It is not until it begins to hit rock bottom,

Until the problems have gotten much worse,

That it decides to let it go.

When there is no desire,

There is peace.

If we are pursuing some goal,

We may be carrying out our work in a detached way,

Without identifying with our achievements or with our losses,

As if we were the means through which a work is done,

Or at most a co-creator,

And not so much the sole and definitive person responsible for our work.

Don't forget that to partner up with life is a very good business.

On the contrary,

Desire,

The one with which we obsess and ends up dominating us,

Implies separation,

Loss of control,

Reduced capacity for awareness and receptivity.

To finish,

I would like you to ask yourself,

Am I clinging to some situation that is not flowing?

Am I dominated by some desire or situation that is wearing me out extremely?

Maybe it's time to let go,

To disidentify a little.

At least,

For now.
