Once upon a time,

In a quaint little town,

There lived three best friends.

Isaac,

Tala and Ethan.

Their town was surrounded by a lush and mystical forest,

And one sunny morning the trio decided to embark on a grand adventure.

Leaving their parents in the park,

They armed themselves with backpacks filled with sandwiches,

Snacks and a few curious gadgets,

And they set off into the woods.

The forest was alive with the rustling of leaves and the sweet songs of birds.

Tala,

With her long dark hair,

Led the way,

Her laughter echoing through the trees.

Ethan,

Always eager to explore,

Picked up sticks along the trail and stuffed them into his backpack.

Isaac,

The nature enthusiast and a fan of birds of prey,

Scanned the skies with hopeful eyes.

Their journey into the woods was filled with delightful discoveries.

As they walked along the trail,

They discovered some beautiful stones,

Ones they had never seen before.

There were stones of red and brown and cream and white.

They were all shapes and sizes too,

Long ones,

Round ones,

Sharp ones and heavy ones.

Ethan already had his collection of sticks,

But Tala and Isaac wanted to take some stones home as a memory of their adventure.

They picked some up and carried along the way.

The stones were heavy though,

And so they were very happy when they came across a rusty old wheelbarrow,

Half buried in leaves.

The three friends decided the wheelbarrow would be perfect to carry their newfound treasures,

Ethan's collection of sticks and the assortment of beautifully shaped stones,

Plus whatever else they found along the way.

They began to take the leaves out of the wheelbarrow.

Isaac started first and grabbed a handful of leaves.

Without looking behind him,

He threw them backwards out of the wheelbarrow and they flew up into the air and floated very softly around Ethan's face.

Ethan let out a laugh and turning around,

Isaac saw that it was raining leaves.

They all laughed and began to each grab handfuls of leaves and throw them up into the air so they would softly fall around them like they were falling from the skies.

They continued by grabbing leaves from the ground and throwing them up into the air too,

So they could laugh and enjoy that moment a little longer.

After they stopped laughing,

They took a deep breath and smiled at each other.

Now all of the leaves were gone from the wheelbarrow,

They filled it with their treasures and continued deeper into the forest along the path.

As they ventured further,

Isaac spotted a majestic bird of prey soaring above,

Its wings outstretched,

Casting a shadow over the forest floor.

This wasn't just any bird,

It had distinct markings as if it were dressed in regal attire.

It was a hawk and it descended from the sky very quickly,

Landing gracefully on Isaac's outstretched arm as if it had been waiting for him to arrive.

It was fascinating to see such a bird so close and it seemed very friendly.

They named the bird Harry,

Harry the Hawk and as they did so,

The hawk seemed to be pointing his nose towards the path and a big oak tree up ahead.

They decided that the hawk was guiding them along and with the bird on Isaac's hand,

They followed Harry as he pointed the way with his beak.

The giant oak tree was so big that it completely shaded parts of the wood.

As they approached,

They could see the trunk had been carved out to look like there was an owl sitting on a perch.

Harry was showing them the wonders of the forest and how fun that was to see.

Thank you,

Harry,

Said Isaac.

You are my friend and I'm so grateful you showed us this owl in the tree.

It's not real,

But it looks real.

Harry became a feathered friend and although he was heavy on Isaac's arm,

They carried him along the trail as he pointed his beak forward to show them more.

They soon reached a crystal clear stream where the water sparkled like a thousand diamonds.

Without hesitation,

They decided to cross it,

Leaping from rock to rock.

As they were only children,

Some of the jumps between rocks were quite hard,

But they encouraged each other.

Come on,

Tala,

You can do it,

Said Ethan as Tala stopped and looked at one of the big jumps across the rocks.

She did it.

She took a big jump and joined the boys on the other side of the stream,

All high-fiving and proud of themselves for being so brave and jumping so high.

Along the stream's bank,

They discovered clusters of mushrooms,

Their colours as vibrant as a painter's palette,

And the soil beneath their feet was teeming with life.

The mushrooms smelt delicious and they decided to pick some to put in the wheelbarrow.

They weren't going to eat them now as they needed to ask their parents if they were edible.

Those mushrooms have made me feel hungry,

Said Tala.

I wish I could eat them now.

Although they knew they couldn't,

They did know that they had lunch in their backpacks and so continued their adventure,

Looking for a perfect place to stop and eat their sandwiches.

As the sun began to cast a warm golden glow on the forest,

They found a soft mossy clearing beneath another really big oak tree.

They decided it was the perfect spot for their picnic.

They laid out their sandwiches,

Apples and snacks.

Harry made some squawks and Isaac realised that he was hungry too.

They shared bites with their newfound friend and as they did so,

More animals began to surround them and ask for nibbles of their food.

There was a curious rabbit,

A squirrel and even a family of tiny mischievous fairies.

The fairies were very pretty and colourful and gifted Tala a small pot of fairy dust,

Promising her good luck on her adventures.

As they were finishing with their lunch and packing away the blanket,

A friendly family of deer pranced through the woods alongside them.

They stopped and looked at the three children for a moment and Isaac,

Tala and Ethan also took a moment to stand still and be quiet so as to not scare the deer.

Ethan still had a little sandwich left in his hand and he reached it out towards the deer.

The mother deer came slowly over to them and happily took the sandwich out of Ethan's hand.

She took it back to her baby and fed the little deer with the snack,

Taking just a small bite herself too.

All the animals seemed to be friends and they talked to one another in animal language.

This is how they knew that Isaac,

Tala and Ethan were all really friendly children and were not going to hurt them.

They could feel safe and happy to meet each other and they did.

Harry the hawk was pointing his beak back down the path and they thought maybe it was time to start walking home.

They didn't want to worry their parents.

As they set off though,

With Harry now flying just ahead of them through the woods,

All of the other animals decided to come along the way.

What a wonderful magical journey having this walk into the woods with all of these beautiful creatures as their friends.

A mischievous squirrel chatted as if he was sharing secrets and a wise owl hooted from high in the treetops,

Keeping watch for the other animals.

Tala,

With her boundless energy,

Raced through the woods,

Hopping and skipping,

So happy.

She was playing with the deer as they headed down the path.

The squirrel playfully tried to take one of Ethan's sticks and Ethan laughed at how sneaky he was being.

You can take it if you need to build a home with it,

Squirrel,

Said Ethan and let him take the stick away.

Isaac was in his element with Harry and Harry seemed to be getting Isaac to squawk like him.

Isaac kept making the sound Harry did as they walked along,

Laughing,

Connecting with each other.

As they walked along the path out of the woods,

They found even more magical creatures.

A playful fox came bounding up to them and as they got back to the stream,

He guided them along the stream to a little hidden waterfall.

It was hot and they thought about jumping in to cool off.

Many of the animals went straight in the water and the three children looked at each other,

Wondering if they should do the same.

The fox came up to Ethan and pulled on his trousers as if asking him to come and play and all at once they took their shoes off and their coats and they ran into the water too.

They laughed as they splashed one another and played with all of the animals in the water as they called off from running through the forest.

How fun,

They thought,

But of course they didn't have any dry clothes,

Only dry socks and shoes and coats.

Oh dear,

They thought,

We're going to get cold on the walk home now.

But just as they started to worry,

Some birds came flying down from the skies with feathers and some sheep's wool in their beaks.

Isaac,

Tala and Ethan took their jumpers off and wrapped themselves in the animals' own coats as well as their own ones,

Feeling now very much a part of the animal family as they walked the final stretch out of the woods.

As they reached the edge of the woods,

The animals started to slow.

It was not possible for them to go any further with them and so Isaac,

Tala and Ethan had to say goodbye to their new furry friends.

They thanked them for a lovely adventure and for showing them the way and the animals stood and watched as the three friends walked along the path towards their parents.

Harry was high in the sky squawking and Isaac turned and replied with the same sound.

The fairies had come with Tala and were fluttering by the deer giggling with excitement and the fox,

He was walking around in circles trying to stop himself running after Ethan to play some more.

Bye little ones,

We'll come again another day,

They all said.

With heavy hearts they left the enchanted woods with the wheelbarrow of their treasures still in tow.

The parents were waiting in the park,

Their faces filled with surprise as the three children,

Now dressed as animals in feathers and wool,

Came bounding back towards them.

Isaac,

Tala and Ethan shared all of their stories of their magical day in the woods and their parents listened in awe.

As they drove back home,

Nestled in the car's cozy interior,

Their eyes heavy with the day's excitement,

They fell asleep one by one.

Their dreams filled with the enchantment of the forest and the delightful creatures they had met and with their eyes now closed and a gentle smile still on their face,

They ended a wonderful day of adventure,

Friendship and the pure magic of nature.

Good night.
