In this meditation we focus on the everyday act of brushing our teeth with a sense of curiosity, using our senses as anchors. In practising as we brush our teeth, we can ease into each day mindfully and take a moment to be present every night before we go to bed.

Coming to stillness,

Standing in your bathroom.

With a toothbrush and toothpaste in front of you.

Now close your eyes and feel yourself standing here,

Supported by gravity.

And as you're standing here,

Bring your attention to your breath.

Feeling the in-breath and the out-breath.

Feeling your chest expanding as you're breathing in and relaxing as you're breathing out.

Now letting go of your breath,

Gently opening up your eyes.

Now pick up your toothbrush and explore it with your sense of sight.

Look at it from all angles.

Almost as if you had never ever in your life seen a toothbrush before.

Be curious.

Now close your eyes and start exploring it with your sense of touch.

How does your toothbrush feel?

Now open your eyes and grab the toothpaste and slowly open it,

Listening to the sounds of opening a toothpaste.

When it's open,

Bring it to your nose and close your eyes.

How does your toothpaste smell?

Now opening your eyes again and placing some of the toothpaste onto your toothbrush.

Now looking at that bit of toothpaste from all sides.

It's color,

Texture,

Shape.

Is it shiny?

Then when you're ready,

Placing the brush into your mouth and start to very slowly brushing your teeth.

Listen to the sounds your brush makes.

Be curious.

Now increase the speed of brushing a little bit and listen again.

Try brushing different spaces in your mouth using different movements,

Keeping your attention anchored on the sense of listening.

Now let go of listening.

Bring your attention to the sense of touch.

How does your toothbrush feel in your mouth,

On your gums?

Close your eyes and simply feel as you're brushing your teeth.

Now bring your attention to the sense of taste.

How does your toothpaste taste?

Really feeling the taste all over your mouth as you continue brushing your teeth.

Now either pressing the pause button to take some more time brushing your teeth or spitting out the toothpaste now into the sink and washing your mouth with fresh water.

When you're done,

Coming back to standing with closed eyes.

Feel the inside of your mouth.

Use your tongue to explore your teeth.

Do they feel clean?

How's the taste in your mouth?

Does it still taste of toothpaste?

Then in your own time,

When you're ready,

Gently opening your eyes and continuing your day,

Teeth clean.
