Happy Black History Month.

This meditation is meant to uplift your spirits when racial trauma is triggered,

Give you grace and help you remember and celebrate who you are while deeply relaxing you and connecting you to your breath and body.

And before we begin the meditation,

I want to take a moment to celebrate and recognize all that we are.

Whether your homeland is at the base of South America,

The Pacific Ocean,

Caribbean Sea,

Or the tip of Canada.

Whether your great grandmother spoke French,

Creole,

Spanish,

English,

Korean,

The First Nations,

Indigenous language,

Or her native mother African tongue.

Whether you were raised with a golden spoon placed in your mouth,

Or you had to fight for a seat at the table.

Whether you are gay,

Straight,

All of the above,

And everything in between.

Whether your eyes are blue,

Or the color of the shining night sky.

You are a part of something big,

Beautiful,

And that isn't limited to the color of your skin tone.

Our food,

Music,

Culture is something that is admired as well as consistently being studied and emulated throughout other cultures and personal experiences.

We claim proudly great minds and leaders such as Nelson Mandela,

Oprah,

Barack Obama,

Frederick Douglas,

Dr.

Martin Luther King,

Dr.

Maya Angelou,

Muhammad Ali,

And Harriet Tubman to only name a few.

We ourselves are consistently learning about how great our history and people are.

How much this astounds us.

And no matter where we travel,

Even if we may be from completely different cultural worlds,

We recognize one another as being a part of a bigger tribe.

We have also had to survive.

We have experienced personal trauma and global trauma.

A trauma that has spanned over time generations and countless souls.

I know for me the idea of black as beautiful can sometimes feel like black is a burden and a responsibility I did not ask for.

And yet here I am,

And here you are,

And here we are.

So now,

Without further ado,

Let's dive on into this meditation.

Come to lie on down if you can,

Or simply take a comfortable seat and see if you can lean back.

Take a nice big deep inhale into the body.

And exhale.

Breathe in.

And sigh out.

Try to make your inhales as long as your exhales.

And continue to breathe for four more breath cycles.

Feel the beauty and freedom of your breath as it washes over every part of your body.

Take a moment of gratitude for your breath for being here and alive right now.

Let the breath be like ocean waves washing over the feet,

The ankles,

The shins,

The knees,

The legs,

The lower back,

Glute muscles and pelvis,

Belly,

Chest,

Arms,

And arms.

Release the neck.

Release tension from the face,

The ears,

The top of your head.

Feel the vibration of this dance of this breath throughout your body.

Let everything else go.

Let the earth soak up any tension,

Any resistance.

And visualize yourself in your favorite place in nature.

And it could be absolutely anywhere from the snowy mountain peaks to a tropical rainforest.

Imagine there's a fire there,

Dancing and moving in a heart-pounding legway.

It's strong,

Warm,

And inviting.

Even if you touch it,

It does not burn.

Recognize that you were forged from the fires of time and that you are a survivor.

Recognize the freedom and peace of the air within you and all around you feeding off this energy.

Imagine yourself dancing.

Dancing in any way you wish without judgment or criticism.

Dancing around the flames of this fire.

And you are dancing around the power of this element.

Your body is free.

Your mind is free.

In this space,

There is no suffering.

Simply dancing in the power of nature at this present moment.

Take a moment of pride.

Take a moment of gratitude.

And take a moment of pure compassion and self-acceptance.

And repeat these affirmations.

I am free.

I am powerful.

I am brilliant.

I am so loving.

Being black is a beautiful birthright.

Other people's ignorance does not define me or the course of history.

Other people's ignorance does not define me or the course of history.

I am part of a large global community.

The beauty of my skin is simply the cherry on top of who I am.

The past does not define me.

I am not my skin tone.

I am a beautiful soul having a human experience.

I am worthy of real love and friendship regardless of skin tone.

I am worthy of abundance.

I am worthy of all dreams and desires.

I am my own Oprah.

I am my own Oprah.

I don't have to prove anything to anyone but myself.

Diversity and compassion is the energy of which I fill the world around me.

One more time,

Diversity and compassion is the energy of which I fill the world around me.

Just take a moment to celebrate all that makes you you.

Take a moment to celebrate and honor all that have come before you and all that you are opening doors for simply just being you.

Now set an intention for yourself from this place of freedom and celebration to do something just for you today.

Remember that you are not alone,

For we are all connected and interconnected.

We are all a community that embodies the definition of acceptance and love.

And when you get tired and when you get cynical,

Remember that this is your gift and your birthright.

Go celebrate your journey,

Your strength,

And always remember through the heartache and the times of divine magic and bliss,

Honor who you are.

Good luck and Namaste.
