Hello,
Friend!
I'm so glad you're here.
Let's speak honestly.
This being human is hard.
Some days we feel confident,
Clear about the path we're on,
And the steps to take.
And other days,
Life feels uncertain.
We're flooded with thoughts and information that makes our heads spin with confusion.
Maybe you're there now.
I want you to know you are not alone.
I created this guided meditation because I,
Too,
Feel lost in the fog many days.
The feeling of being unmoored from land,
Adrift at sea,
And unable to navigate in the dark is a familiar one.
And I,
Too,
Felt alone in it.
And not just alone,
But I believed that somehow others were able to find their way when I could not.
That they saw the detour and were on the right path and somehow I missed the turn.
It was only after gaining some distance and perspective that I realized I had equated this period of disorientation with misdirection.
Without realizing it,
I labeled the feeling and my experiences wrong or bad.
But my friend,
I have some news for you.
It is not wrong,
This feeling you're having.
It is not evidence that you've landed in the wrong place.
What if your intelligent,
Sensing body,
Your highly responsive nervous system,
Is preparing you for change?
Think about it.
What do animals in the wild do before a storm arrives?
A storm that will bring rain and flood.
They move to higher ground.
It's pure instinct.
I think we are the wild animal sensing a change in the weather pattern of our life.
And our instinct is to seek higher ground.
But our rational thinking brain is interfering,
Questioning this instinct.
And we become paralyzed in our over-analysis,
Which leads to more confusion and self-doubt.
The question we must answer is,
What is our higher ground?
What does higher ground represent for you?
This is such a wonderful question to journal on,
And there are many answers to this question.
But right now,
The higher ground I want to bring you to is you.
Your true self.
I like to call it home.
The metaphorical place within you.
A place of peace,
Calm,
And soul connection.
So,
Take a seat,
Or lay down if that feels better.
We'll take three deep cleansing breaths together to settle into stillness and presence.
A cleansing breath is a deep breath in through your nose until you can't sip in any more air.
And then you hold your breath for a count of three.
I like to picture myself as I'm holding my breath as a leaf floating through the air.
Then,
Open your mouth and exhale out with a sigh.
And let any tension from your body go.
Here we go.
Deep inhale through your nose.
Sipping air until your lungs cannot hold any more.
And hold for three,
Two,
One.
Exhale out the mouth with a big sigh.
Again,
Just like that.
Deep inhale through the nose.
Hold,
Be the gently floating leaf.
Exhale,
Let it go.
One more time.
Deep inhale,
Drawing in as much breath as you can.
Pause,
Float,
Holding the breath.
Exhale,
Let it go.
Softening,
Relaxing the body.
Very good.
Now,
Return to nostril breathing in and out.
Nothing forced.
Mindfully taking in deep breaths.
And breathing out long,
Full exhales.
Feeling your belly inflate and your chest expand on your inhale.
And with each exhale,
You soften and relax any constriction or tension in your body.
You'll notice from time to time,
Your mind will interrupt with a thought or a story.
Simply notice and come back to your breath.
Releasing the thought and putting your attention on each inhale and each exhale.
You may want to use a mantra to help you stay in the present moment.
Perhaps as you inhale,
Repeat mindfully,
I am.
And as you exhale,
Mindfully say,
Here.
Inhale,
I am.
Exhale,
Here.
Maybe adding in touch by bringing your hand to your heart or to your belly if that feels comfortable.
This stillness,
This presence,
This connection to your true self,
To soul,
Is your higher ground.
Anytime you feel the swirl of confusion or flood of overwhelm,
Remember,
It's your instinct nudging you to move to higher ground.
Come back to this guided meditation as many times as you want to return home to yourself.
Thank you for being with me today.
It is an honor to guide you home.
Have a beautiful day.
Namaste.
