A brief introduction to the chakras.
In the yogic tradition,
The chakras are understood as very subtle energy centers within the body.
The word Chakra itself,
It means wheel or it means disc and it suggests a place where energy gathers,
Moves and expresses itself.
You can think of the chakras as the inner meeting points between The body,
The mind,
The emotion and the spirit.
They are not simply physical organs but they are often associated with areas of the body,
With qualities of consciousness,
With emotional patterns and with stages of inner development.
So the seven chakras,
The first chakra,
Muladhara,
The root chakra.
It is located at the base of the spine near the pelvic floor.
Its color is traditionally red and its element is earth.
Mola Dada is connected with safety,
Stability,
Grounding,
Belonging and our relationship to the physical world.
When this center is balanced,
We may feel steady,
Supported,
Present and able to trust life a little more deeply.
The next one is Swadhisthana,
The sacral chakra.
And this is located in the lower abdomen just below the navel.
Its color is orange and its element is water.
Swadhisthana is connected with feeling,
Creativity,
Pleasure,
Emotional flow,
And our capacity to receive life.
Where the Root Chakra is about stability,
The Sacral Chakra is about movement.
It invites us to notice what is flowing within us,
Our emotions,
Sensations,
Desires,
Creativity,
And it invites us to notice this without judgment.
In this center,
We learn that life does not have to be controlled in order to be trusted.
Then we have the Manipura,
The solar plexus chakra.
It is located around the upper abdomen between the navel and the lower ribs.
Its color is yellow and its element is fire.
Manipura is connected with confidence,
Willpower,
Digestion,
Transformation,
Clarity and personal strength.
This is the center of inner fire.
The place where we discover our ability to act,
Choose,
Change and move forward.
When it's balanced.
Manipura does not express itself as force or control,
But as quiet strength.
It is the feeling of I can meet life.
I can take the next step.
I have in a bowel.
The fourth Chakra is Anahata.
An Anahata is the heart chakra located at the center of the chest.
Its color is green and its element is air.
Andahata is connected with love,
Compassion,
Forgiveness,
Tenderness,
Grief,
Connection,
A lot of emotions.
And Anahata is the bridge between the lower chakras and the higher chakras,
Between the human and the spiritual,
Between personal experience and deeper openness.
The heart chakra reminds us that healing is not only about becoming stronger.
Sometimes healing is about becoming softer.
More open and more willing to be touched by life.
In this center.
We remember Lao Tzu.
Not only as something we give,
But as something we are allowed to receive.
Then there is the Troth Chakra,
Vishuddha,
The fifth chakra.
And this is located at the truth.
Its color is blue and its element is either ether or space.
And Vishuddha is connected with truth,
With expression,
With communication,
With listening and with authenticity.
This centre invites you to ask.
What is my truth?
What needs to be spoken?
What needs to be heard?
And where can I listen more deeply?
The throat chakra is not only about speaking.
It's also about sacred listening.
Listening to the body,
Listening to the heart,
Listening to silence.
And listening to what life is quietly revealing.
Then there's the sixth chakra,
The ajna chakra,
The third eye chakra.
And this is located between the eyebrows slightly inward.
Its color is indigo and it is associated with inner vision,
Intuition,
Wisdom,
Perception,
Clarity.
Agnya invites us to see beyond the surface of things.
It is the center of insight.
The ability to notice thoughts without being trapped by them,
To observe patterns and to sense a deeper intelligence beneath ordinary thinking.
This center often opens us into the witness,
The part that can observe body.
The part that can observe breath,
The part that can observe thought and emotion with quiet awareness.
And finally the 7th Chakra,
The Crown Chakra,
Sahasrara.
It is located at the crown of the head but kind of just above the crown of the head.
Its color is often described as violet or white or just a radiant light.
And Sahasrada is connected with spiritual connection,
With unity,
With grace,
With surrender and with pure awareness.
This is not so much a Chakra that we control but one that we soften into.
And it points us toward the mystery of being.
The sense that we are not separate from life,
Not separate from consciousness,
And not separate from the sacred.
And here the journey becomes less about doing and more about allowing.
Less about becoming and more about remembering.
So as we move through these chakras,
We are not trying to force anything open.
We are not trying to fix ourselves.
We are simply bringing awareness,
Breath,
Color,
Sound and gentle attention to each center.
The journey through the chakras can be understood as a journey through the whole human being.
From the Earth of the body.
To the waters of emotion,
To the fire of transformation,
To the air of the heart,
To the space of expression,
To the light of insight and then to the silence of pure awareness.
And you may notice that each of these chakras offers a quiet invitation.
The Root says,
I am supported.
The Sakeville says,
I allow life to flow.
The solar plexus says,
I trust my inner strength.
The heart,
It says,
I am open to love.
The throat says I express my truth.
The third eye says,
I see clearly.
And the crown says,
I rest in awareness.
Thank you for listening.
Namaste.
