A Poem To Begin Again (YS 1.1)

Begin again — exactly where you are. This poem is inspired by Yoga Sutra 1.1: Atha Yogānuśāsanam
Now, the teaching of Yoga begins.

The first word of the Yoga Sutras is Atha — now. It reminds us that the path does not begin when life is perfect, when the mind is quiet, or when we finally feel ready. It begins in this very moment.

This short reflective poem is an invitation to stop waiting for a better time, a better version of yourself, or a more perfect beginning.

Every breath offers a doorway back to practice, presence, and inner renewal.

This poem is inspired by Yoga Sutra 1. 1. ATHA YOGA ANUSASANA Now, The teaching of yoga begins. The first word of the Yoga Sutras is Atha. Now. It reminds us that the path does not begin when life is perfect, When the mind is quiet or when we finally feel ready. It begins in this very moment, Exactly as we are. This poem is an invitation to stop waiting for the better time, A better version of yourself or the more perfect beginning. Every breath offers a doorway. Atha, Now, Begin Again The poem is titled Atha, Begin Again. You do not need the perfect road. Or certainty about the way. The path appears beneath your feet. When you are willing to begin today. The past may whisper from behind with names for who you used to be. But every breath unfastens time and opens one more door to see. The river does not turn around to gather waters that have passed. It meets each stone, Then journeys on, Not knowing where it rests at last. The dawn does not condemn the night, Or struggle with the fading grey. It simply offers light to light and quietly becomes the day. So place the weight you carried down. The failed attempts, The fear, The blame. Your life does not require you to begin exactly as you came. One conscious breath can be a gate. One pause can interrupt the old. One honest step into the now can loosen what the years still hold. And should you wander from the path. Or lose the silence you once knew. The present does not close its arms. It waits again to welcome you. Atha. Now. The threshold calls.
