Welcome to this mindfulness session for craving relief.
My name is Lauren Archer,
And I'll be your guide.
Whether you're reducing or eliminating alcohol,
Sugar,
Cigarettes,
Or another substance,
Even with the best support,
Cravings can sometimes still arise.
And that's completely normal.
The purpose of this session is to help you meet cravings with calm attention.
And show you how to use the power of your mind.
To dissolve urges naturally.
Making habit change easier and safer.
Gentler and more sustainable over time.
Before we begin.
I want to share a little story.
One you might already recognize as familiar.
Imagine a trail in the woods.
It's the path you've walked every day.
The same footsteps,
The same direction.
Over time,
The ground has worn smooth.
The way is automatic.
But one day,
You realize that path no longer leads you to where you want to go.
And you decide to make a change.
You stop?
And turn.
And start walking in a new direction.
Through the shrubs,
The brush,
And the branches.
This new way is still unfamiliar.
There's no clear path.
And the ground cover is thick and tangled and a little overgrown.
The first time you walk a new path,
It takes effort.
But the second time?
It's a little easier.
And by the third,
Fourth,
Fifth,
And sixth,
Your steps are already forming a clearer path between the branches and brush.
Over time.
The old trail begins to fade.
While the new one becomes more familiar.
It becomes your new normal.
That's what this session is all about.
Each time you listen,
You are creating a new neural pathway in your brain.
And just like building a new pathway in the forest,
This is reinforcing your decision to live a healthier life.
The more often you walk it,
The easier it becomes.
Today we'll explore a new way of relating to cravings.
Not as enemies to fight.
Not as commands to obey.
But as passing messengers in the mind and body.
In this session,
You'll learn how to meet a craving with mindful awareness.
To locate where you feel it in your body and how you experience it.
And to bring the light of your awareness to those sensations.
And to witness how,
With attention and breath,
Cravings can begin to naturally dissolve and release all on their own.
You'll explore a few gentle strategies to dissolve your cravings,
Perhaps breathing them out like steam into the morning air.
Or letting them melt like ice in the midday sun.
Or simply watching them drift by like clouds in the twilight sky.
And most importantly,
You'll feel what it's like to choose.
To deliberately choose.
To let the cravings go.
While remaining calm.
Clear.
And in control.
And you're strengthening your ability to make choices.
That truly serve you.
This is an inner skill set.
A mindfulness practice that is cumulative.
I recommend listening once a day.
For 21 days.
Because each time you listen.
You reinforce your learning.
Until it becomes more natural.
More automatic.
And simply the way you live.
And now,
Let's begin.
Take a moment to find a comfortable position.
Whether sitting,
Reclining or lying down.
Allow your hands to rest easily.
Let your shoulders drop,
Softening and relaxing.
And allow your eyes to gently close.
Take a deep breath in.
And as you exhale.
Feel the weight of your body supported.
As though the Earth itself.
Is holding you gently.
With each breath.
Your mind begins to quiet.
And you find yourself becoming more aware.
Of the present moment.
Take another slow,
Deep breath in.
And as you exhale.
You can notice the way your body can continue to soften.
As though it's been waiting for this moment to relax and let go.
And now turn your attention inward.
Inward.
To yourself.
You might imagine your attention.
As a warm glowing light.
Shining gently within you.
This is the light.
Of your awareness.
Imagine this light.
Scanning your body from the inside out.
Gently.
Curiously.
And with kindness and compassion.
And now let's take a moment to notice how you experience cravings.
How you notice the whisper.
Or the pole.
Or the urge of a craving.
Perhaps it's a tightness in your chest.
Or a restless energy in your hands.
A warm pull in your mouth or in your stomach.
Or maybe it's more like a buzzing or a chattering in your mind.
Simply observe it.
Noticing the sensations.
As if you are a scientist in your own personal laboratory.
Viewing with curiosity.
Neutral.
Making no judgment about what you find.
Simply notice where in your body you feel the sensations of a craving and bring the light of your awareness to that place.
Now as you observe,
You can realize that this is just your brain.
Sending a signal.
Cravings are old signals firing in the brain.
Their tiny bursts of electrical activity.
Traveling through your nervous system.
Their old familiar pathways.
Lighting up for just a moment.
Echoes from the past.
Reminders of times when certain habits were linked with pleasure,
Comfort,
Or escape.
And from this deep inner place,
You can just witness this truth.
A craving may feel powerful in the moment,
But it has no real power over you.
A craving is not a command.
You don't have to follow it.
A craving is simply a sensation.
And sensations like waves.
Rise and fall and fade away.
Right here.
Right now.
You can see that.
You can simply observe the sensations.
Breathe with them.
Let them be here without needing to act.
You can pause and notice what you are feeling and sensing.
Watching the sensations as they rise and fall.
You might say to yourself.
This is only a craving.
It's only a thought.
A signal.
It's not urgent.
It will pass.
And now.
Notice what happens as your inner light of awareness begins to grow warmer.
Softer.
Infusing your body.
And all of those sensations.
With kindness.
Perhaps you imagine the sensations dissolving.
Like sugar.
Melting into warm water.
Or like steam.
Rising into the morning sunlight.
Or like a mist gently lifting into the sky.
You can feel and sense the way those sensations are dissipating.
Leaving your body.
The light of your awareness is transforming those sensations.
Allowing you to fully release them.
Leaving you feeling lighter.
Freer.
And more spacious inside.
Feel into this moment now as the cravings lift and release.
Notice the relief you feel.
The internal spaciousness.
The quiet satisfaction of having moved through this experience with ease.
Your body and mind have returned to a place of wholeness,
Ease,
And comfort.
And you are building new pathways in your brain.
Making this easier.
And easier.
Each time.
And know this.
There may be days.
When the craving feels stronger.
And you choose differently than you plan.
That's not failure.
It's simply part of learning.
Your brain is still practicing.
Recalibrating.
Rewiring those old loops.
You wouldn't expect to lift a heavy weight without first building your muscle strength.
This is the same.
You are building a muscle in your mind.
Every time you pause,
Breathe and choose awareness.
You are building that inner strength.
From this day forward,
You notice that you now have the power within you to change your relationship with cravings.
You may even hear yourself say.
A craving is just a thought.
A sensation.
An old pattern lighting up in my brain.
It may feel real.
But I know it will pass.
I can notice old cravings and let them rise and fall like a wave.
I can stay calm.
Non-reactive.
And at ease.
I have space.
I have a choice.
Each breath helps me release what I no longer need.
I can breathe out and release cravings like mist dissipating up into the sky.
I am calm.
Clear.
And in control.
My brain is building new neural pathways.
This gets easier and easier every day.
I am stronger than this craving.
I am free to choose what truly nourishes me.
As you let these suggestions settle in.
Know that you can return to this process whenever you choose.
You've already taken an important step.
Choosing to care for yourself in a new way.
Your decision to live a healthier life,
To feel better in your body.
To think more clearly and to show up with greater ease and strength.
That matters.
That's important.
And this decision is alive in you right now.
Not just in your thoughts.
But in your breath.
Your presence.
And your willingness to pause.
And each time you listen.
Each time you practice.
Your ability to let cravings naturally pass becomes more natural.
More automatic.
And before you know it.
.
.
This calm,
Empowered way of responding?
Becomes your new normal.
These changes.
May happen quickly.
Or they may happen gradually.
But you can rest assured that change is happening moment by moment.
Breath by breath.
And now.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in.
And as you exhale,
You can bring your awareness back to this present moment.
Let your body stretch.
And bring some gentle movement back into your fingers and toes.
Coming back to this present time and space.
Feeling relaxed?
Alert.
And ready to return to your day with presence and strength.
Thank you for showing up for yourself and for listening to this craving relief program.
