Welcome to Wonderpool.

How are you doing?

This is day nine.

We're keeping you company and helping you use the time to access all the benefits that come with a regular mindfulness practice.

Researchers recently went through more than 4,

000 scientific papers on mindfulness to see what sort of consensus they could form.

Overall,

They found mindfulness is good for us.

Not only does it improve our ability to focus,

But it also improves the way we interact with others.

Metta is a compassion meditation,

Which is a popular Buddhist practice.

Modern studies show people who practice compassion meditation are more connected and empathetic.

Brain imaging shows it regulates the functioning of the limbic system,

Which processes emotions.

Compassion meditation is also one of the most effective techniques for improving depression.

Clearly powerful stuff.

And it's all about sending good vibes to others.

So let's give it a try.

We're going to use a social media feed to guide us.

So pull up LinkedIn,

Facebook,

Instagram,

Whatever you're into.

If you're not on social,

You can use your email inbox.

Call us if you need some more time.

Okay,

So the idea is to scroll slowly through,

But we're not focusing on the post or email content.

Just looking at the people.

Now I'm sure your feeds are full of people you love.

Some you don't,

And some you barely know.

That doesn't matter.

We're going to connect with them all in the same way by simply sending them some good vibes.

Because each of these people,

No matter what you think of them or how well you know them,

Each one has a life full of worries,

Expectations and challenges.

So as we scroll past,

Just focus your full attention on the person's name or profile picture and say in your mind,

Be well.

Say it aloud if you like.

Take a minute to really mean it.

Like you're zapping them with a laser beam of good vibes.

Narrow your eyes,

Rein in your focus.

Be well.

And then scroll down to the next person and do the same.

Focus in and wish them well.

Be well.

Now we're not suggesting that the recipient can feel it.

It's not about that.

It's a brain exercise that has been proven to make you feel better.

Keep going.

Make it into a game.

Don't get sucked into the content or emotion of the post.

You can come back to that.

Right now,

Just on a mission to zap each human with kindness.

Good on you.

Nice work.

One day at a time.

Thanks for being here.
