Hey,

Hey,

Welcome to this week's episode of the Embodying Greatness podcast.

My name is Crystal Gatto.

And in this week's episode,

I want to talk about how to take 100% responsibility for your life.

I think it's some big myth,

At least in American culture today,

That we're entitled to have a great life,

That somehow or somewhere or some way someone other than us is responsible for filling our lives with happiness or fulfillment.

But I think that the real truth is that there is only one person responsible for the quality of life that you live,

And that person is you.

I say this all the time,

You are in charge of your happiness,

You are in charge of everything about you.

If you want to be successful,

You have to take 100% responsibility for everything that you experience in your life.

And this includes the level of your achievements,

The results that you produce,

The quality of your relationships,

The state of your health and well-being,

Your financial situation,

Whether that's the income that you make or the debt that you have,

Your feelings,

You are responsible for everything.

Now I understand that that's not an easy concept,

Or that's not something that most people want to listen to or hear on a daily basis.

But I think that if you're listening to this podcast,

You're already in this conversation,

At least a little bit.

I think that most of us have been conditioned to blame something outside of ourselves for the parts of our life that we don't like.

We blame our parents,

We blame our bosses,

We blame our friends,

Or our partners,

Or our politicians,

Maybe our clients.

We blame the media,

The weather,

Our astrological chart,

Everything.

We find so many things,

People,

Places,

And situations,

And things to pin the blame on so that we don't have to look at ourselves.

We never really want to look at where the real problem is.

And if these things are showing up in your space,

And you don't like the results that you're creating,

My friend,

I love you,

But it is you.

That's the common denominator.

And I'm not saying that to be mean.

I'm just saying,

If we want to change the way we have things,

We have to take a good hard look at ourselves,

And we have to realize that we're the only ones that are responsible for our whole life.

No one else is,

No one else has to be.

Taking 100% responsibility means that you acknowledge that you create everything that happens to you.

It means that you understand that you are the cause of all of your experiences.

If you want to be really successful,

Whatever success or however you define success,

Then you have to give up blaming and complaining and take total responsibility for your life.

And that means all of your results.

Both your successes,

And I'm saying that in air quotes,

And your quote unquote failures,

That is going to be required for creating a life of success.

And again,

Whatever you define success as,

It's only going to be by acknowledging that you've created everything in your vortex up until now.

And then you get to take charge of creating everything that you want in your future.

If you realize that you've created your current conditions,

Then you can uncreate them and recreate something else.

I want you to hear that again.

If you realize that you've created your current conditions,

Then you can uncreate them and recreate something else.

I absolutely love that.

You have to give up all of your excuses.

There is a quote that I want to read by George Washington Carver.

And for those of you who know me and know me in transformational trainings,

I love George Washington Carver.

And I love the story of how he became George Washington Carver.

But his quote is 99% of all failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses.

Can I get an amen on that?

Okay.

If you want to create the life of your dreams,

Then you are going to have to take 100% responsibility for your life as well.

That means giving up all excuses,

All of your victim stories,

All of the reasons why you can't and why you haven't done it up until now,

And all your blaming of outside circumstances.

You have to give all of that stuff up.

I understand that it can be scary.

I understand that we all have moments of fear,

Maybe needing to be right,

The need to feel safe,

Wanting to be conveniently confused or not having full awareness of what's going on around us.

But it doesn't matter.

If you've been like that,

If you've been operating like that,

You can stop that.

And you can make a new choice.

All that matters now is that from this point forward,

That you choose.

With awareness comes choice.

And the choice is to step into understanding that you are 100% responsible for everything.

Everything that you do,

Everything that happens to you,

Everything that doesn't happen,

All of those things.

And if everything doesn't turn out as planned,

Then instead of blaming or looking at outside circumstances,

A really powerful question you could ask yourself is,

How did I create that?

What are my beliefs?

What was I thinking?

What did I say?

Or what did I not say?

What did I do?

Or what did I not do to create this result?

How did I get here?

And what do I need to do differently next time to get the result that I want?

And I'm not saying ask yourself this from like a heavy,

Beat up,

Blaming come from.

Ask yourself from a place of curiosity.

I read in a book,

The Success Principles by Jack Canfield,

That there's a formula that he came up with.

And the formula is E plus R equals O.

So that stands for event plus response equals outcome.

So the basic idea is that every outcome that you experience in life,

Whether it is quote unquote a success or a failure,

The result of how you've responded to earlier events in your life are the things that have those outcomes happen.

If you don't like the outcome you're currently getting,

There are two basic choices that you can make.

So number one,

You can blame the event for your lack of results.

In other words,

If you blame the economy or the weather or the lack of money or the lack of education or the current political climate,

If you blame those things,

Then you're never going to overcome or have results that you want because they're limiting factors.

If you blame external conditions and circumstances,

They will always stop you because we're going to allow them.

We stop ourselves.

We think limiting thoughts and then engage in self-defeating behaviors.

We defend our self-destructive habits.

We ignore feedback.

We waste time on trivial things.

We engage in things that aren't useful like gossip or eating unhealthy or we don't exercise or we spend money on things that we know we shouldn't.

We don't invest our money when we know we should invest in the future.

We don't tell the truth.

We don't ask people for what we want.

We say yes to people when we mean no.

All of those things.

And then we wonder why our lives don't work.

The second choice is to change your response.

Change the way you react to the events until you get the outcome that you want.

You can change your thinking.

You can transform your relationship with your limiting beliefs.

You can change the way that you communicate.

You can change the way that you hold yourself in your mind because we all think that we're a certain way,

But that could change as well.

You can change your point of view on the world.

You can change your behaviors.

You're in charge of all of those things.

That is all you really have.

For all of my control people,

This is the thing you have control over.

But unfortunately,

Most of us are so run down by our habits that we never change our behavior.

We get stuck in these conditioned responses.

And we do that with our partners.

We do that with our families,

Our children,

The people that we're around,

Our colleagues,

All of those things,

The world at large.

We just say this is how it is and we don't think that we can change anything.

We think everything is outside of our control,

Which is so ironic because we want to take control over everything.

And then when we're not having the results we want,

Then we blame it on outside circumstances that we have no control over.

Tell me how that makes sense.

But you can be in charge of your thoughts,

Your dreams,

Your behaviors.

Everything you think,

Say and do needs to become intentional and you get to align that with your purpose and your values and your goals.

So again,

If you don't like your outcomes,

Then you get to change your responses.

You are in charge of these things in your life,

The way that you think,

The images that you visualize and the actions that you take,

Which,

You know,

Or your behaviors.

How you use those determines everything you experience.

If you don't like what you're producing and experiencing,

Then you get to change your response,

Change your negative thoughts to positive ones,

Change what you dream about or daydream about,

Change your habits,

Change what you read,

Change what you watch on Netflix or watch on TV.

Some of you might need to change your friend's group.

Some of you get to change the way that you speak,

Speak to yourself,

Speak to other people.

If you keep doing what you've always done,

You're going to keep getting what you've always got.

It's that simple.

All blame is a waste of time.

No matter how much fault you find with somebody else,

It's still not going to change you.

Everything starts and ends with you.

So the bottom line is that you are the one who is creating your life the way it is.

The life you're currently living is the result of all of your past thoughts,

Actions,

Feelings,

Sensations in your body,

Behavior,

Patterns,

All of those things.

You've always been in charge of that.

So if you want something in the future,

Then you get to start changing all of that now.

You're in charge of your current thoughts and your present feelings.

In this moment,

You are in charge of what you say and what you do.

You're also in charge of what goes into your mind.

Like I said,

The books that you read,

The media that you absorb,

The people that you talk to,

The people that you surround yourself with,

Anything that's going in,

The movies that you watch,

The television shows that you watch,

Every one of those things is under your control.

So if you want to be more successful,

All you have to do is act in ways that produce more of what you want.

It really is that simple.

And I'm drilling it down that simple for a reason.

Now it's going to take discipline.

It's going to take consistency.

It's going to take commitment.

But now,

Like I always say,

With awareness comes choice.

You have the awareness.

Take a good hard look at your surroundings,

The relationships you have with people,

The relationship you have with yourself.

Pay attention to the results that you are creating.

And if you don't like the results that you are creating,

Ask yourself those questions.

Who am I being right now?

Or who have I been being in the past to create these results?

Who do I get to be to create different results?

Because my past is my past.

This present moment is my present moment,

But I am in charge of creating the future and creating the results that I want.

It's going to take work.

We're not oaming on a mountain here,

People,

Okay?

I do believe in meditation.

I 100% believe in visualization,

And I also 100% believe in rolling up your sleeves and getting to work.

Every action you take,

It matters.

And you are in charge of that.

That is how you take 100% responsibility for your life.

Anyway,

Until next time,

Let's keep learning and growing and exploring the world together.

And again,

Remember,

You are in charge of your happiness.

So go out and create something amazing today just because you say so.
