Welcome to the Mind,

Body,

Spirit podcast.

I'm your host,

Kim Shepard,

Commanding science and intuition to support your mind,

Body,

Soul wellness journey.

Today's topic is self-care is the journey.

For many of us who embark on this journey of wanting to discover what is life all about,

There's got to be more to life.

There's got to be more to than just going to work and coming home and looking after people and going to sleep and being on this same rat race of just feeling uninspired and feeling tired and exhausted and stressed.

And being a spiritual teacher,

I've been teaching a spiritual class for many,

Many years now.

And the class is designed to support people to align them with their path of purpose and healing because the two of those are so intricately involved.

I can remember back when I felt that feeling of just longing for more,

Wanting to know what is the point of being here?

What is the meaning of life?

And I remember feeling anxious and depressed and overwhelmed and frustrated and uninspired and bored.

And boredom is that feeling I really remember because it wasn't good enough just going to work and coming home and watching TV and just being on this cycle.

It wasn't good enough going out and drinking on the weekends.

I just felt uninspired and I wanted to be able to connect with things that made me feel like life was worth getting up for.

Life is too short to feel like you have to just constantly look after everybody else.

So being a spiritual teacher,

I'm really passionate about supporting people,

About finding their path of healing because when we embark on that healing journey,

It ends up revealing to us the purpose as to why we're here.

For me,

Being a naturopath,

It's something that I was always interested in.

I have a father who was an athlete.

He was the Australasian champion for karate many years in a row.

So he was literally at the top of his game and was brilliant at what he did.

And my mom,

She really inspired me because she would run a triathlon.

She loved going for runs,

Going to the gym.

She would make the most delicious,

Healthiest lunches and was always interested in health.

So I had great role models that taught me the importance of being healthy and putting good nutrition into my body and moving my body.

But I felt like there is something more.

And even when I have patients come in and see me who look after the body physically really well and they eat really well,

But they still don't have wellness.

They still might be anxious and they might be tired and they might not be sleeping well.

So I like to support people to discover the underlying reasons as to why they don't feel healthy in the mind,

The body,

Or the soul.

So with this spiritual class,

I've designed it to be able to support people to have fun,

To schedule time for themselves every week,

And to get out of their head,

To get out of their head and get back into their bodies.

So we do a variety of different things to support people,

Whether it is guided meditations or psychic mediumship activities that we do,

Some form of energy healing like Reiki or working with crystals or working with Oracle cards or numerology.

It's endless as to what we do.

But when we schedule time for self-care and to have fun,

We recognize how good it feels to have fun.

When we get busy with life,

We forget about having fun.

It's usually the first thing to go out the window is that,

Okay,

Fun is gone.

After that is the nutrition side of things and the exercise.

So we want to be able to connect uniquely with what inspires us.

So for me,

When I was on my journey of trying to figure out what is it that I want to do and looking after our daughter,

Who was a toddler at the time,

And my husband who embarked on his hospital journey of learning to walk again,

And it was a really tough road.

I was working,

I was still breastfeeding.

I was absolutely exhausted.

And that's what I'm so grateful for,

Because in these moments that break us or rock us to our core,

That is the catalyst for change.

Now,

Some of us can learn to change without hitting the rock bottom.

For me,

I had to hit two rock bottoms before I'm like,

Right,

This is not good enough to live life in this existence.

I want to be able to actually thrive in life.

So to be able to support myself with discovering,

Okay,

What is the meaning to life or I just need to have fun and do something for me,

I signed up to do a mediumship course.

And it was something I could do within my own time at my own pace.

So that way,

If my family needed me,

I wasn't committing to a course that I had to be logging online with people at the same time.

It was just something that gave me a moment to focus in on me.

And it was the best decision I ever made.

And it really helped to open up my third eye.

And it also taught me that all of the feelings that I've had in recognizing and communicating the spirit was being validated.

So it was an amazing course that I did through Lisa Williams,

A very dear friend of mine.

And during this course,

We did the beginner's mediumship course,

And then I did the advanced psychic mediumship world summit.

So I'd always seen spirit.

It's something that comes from my mom's side of the family.

But it was really amazing embarking on this journey because even though I could see spirit,

I hadn't learned how to meditate.

My mind was so busy and so active.

So going on this journey,

We did a lot of meditation.

And at the end of the advanced psychic mediumship summit,

We all came together,

All of us students around the world.

And we had to do readings for the public.

So it was a psychic reading,

A mediumship reading,

And a psychic mediumship reading.

And when I got the results back for all three of those tests,

Where it was people that we did not know,

I got a 10 out of 10 for all of them.

It blew my mind because I thought,

Okay,

Well,

There's the validation I needed to help boost my confidence that I am good at doing this.

But I just embarked on this other journey with them.

That's where I started to combine the science and the spiritualism.

So for everyone on their journey,

I always say you've got to find what sparks joy for you.

So for some people to kickstart their self-care journey and their journey to discovering their purpose,

It might be just book a massage in once a month.

Just allow yourself that one hour a month to let your mind and your body rest and not think about everybody else.

It might be that.

.

.

So with my spiritual class,

It's something that I do every Thursday night at seven o'clock.

And we spend whatever length of time it takes because we don't ever stop the fun.

If we're in,

You know,

Allowing the energy to flow,

We're having fun,

And we're just discovering all this stuff about ourself,

The class might go for two hours.

So we just embark on this journey of building our intuition and our trust and our belief in ourselves and the universe.

So for someone else who needs to be able to find themselves,

It might be that they want to start a little garden for themselves because it's going to help to ground their energy,

Playing with all of the dirt,

Learning how to grow food and having that appreciation and the gratitude for how much love it takes to grow food.

It might be that someone decides,

Okay,

They're going to come and see me as a natchpath,

And they want to reduce their stress and increase their energy levels because without those two things,

Change is really difficult.

Most people are too stressed and too exhausted to do things for themselves.

So even as a natchpath,

Most of the time within the first appointment,

I don't even touch their diet because if someone is already exhausted and stressed,

They do not have the physical energy or the mental capacity to even thinking about preparing a meal from scratch.

It might be to go,

Okay,

Let's go for some really convenient,

Healthier options and make things easier for you.

It might be that someone likes to go to float tanks or starts a yoga class.

You've got to connect in with that feeling where there's something that you've seen,

And it sparks that joy in you,

And you've gone,

Oh,

I'd love to try that.

And then your ego steps in,

Which I see your ego as a teacher to challenge you as to how much you're going to trust your intuition,

How much you're going to trust your higher self.

So if you see that there's this yoga class that you want to go to,

And that sparks joy,

Then I encourage you to give that a go.

As long as you're not going to go do something that's going to harm yourself or somebody else,

There is no harm in looking after you.

All of us on this mindful journey need to learn how to take care of ourselves.

A lot of the time,

We're so busy looking after everyone else that we've forgotten to look after ourselves,

And particularly single parents or mothers.

I see a lot of mothers come through within my classes and within my naturopathic appointments.

And some come in once the kids all start at school,

And then they'll come in and start to look after themselves.

So that's about a good six years at least where they've not been taking care of themselves.

I've got other mums,

It's not until the kids fly in the nest and when they're about 20.

So there's 20 years at least of neglect from looking after themselves that we've then got to go in and heal and nourish.

So I'm asking you,

What is it that you want to do?

What has inspired you to go,

Oh,

I'd love to go and try that workshop out?

Or perhaps I'd love to go check out that meditation class.

I ask you to trust that feeling in what sparks joy for you,

And to ignore the ego that's challenging you to go,

I'm not good enough.

Oh,

I don't even know how to begin doing that.

I don't have the money.

I don't have the time.

Because realistically,

If we don't have the time to look after ourselves,

Yes,

It's a sign of neglect,

But that's the time when you really need to look after yourself is because you have been neglecting yourself.

You are worthy of your time as much as everyone else is worthy of your time,

And if not,

A little bit more.

Because for every person that you look after,

You need to fill your cup up even more.

And even myself as a practitioner,

If I take on more patients,

I up my self-care.

And there'll be times where I'll adjust my books to suit me for what my body needs in order to look after myself.

And I've learned not to work too hard because it can be really fun supporting other people.

It can be really fun encouraging people to look after themselves,

But I've learned to practice what I preach.

And then through my example,

I'm teaching my daughter how to look after herself,

How to create those healthy boundaries.

I love it even when I've got patients that come through where they haven't been able to see me for a little while,

And they come in and they tell me that they really wanted to come and see me,

But they just had some stuff that happened with family and they just needed to be there for them,

Which is perfectly fine.

The magical part is that they remembered to implement the things that I've taught them in my classes,

In my naturopathic room,

In my Reiki room.

They've remembered to go,

Okay,

What would Kim tell me to do in this situation?

And they've gone,

All right,

Kim would tell me to,

Let's go and meditate.

Let's go make a cup of tea and sit down in my garden.

Let's just go for a walk around the block.

So all these little tips and tools and little insights and wisdom that I give them throughout their journey,

They've remembered to implement that gift and that tool.

And that's when you become your own healer.

That's when you realize how much every thought and every decision you make is either leading you to a path of healing and ultimately your purpose,

Or it's leading you down that path of that road you've probably been on many times before and you're cycling back around again and you recognize that you're going to feel,

Pardon me,

Stressed or tired or exhausted or frustrated or hurt.

You're going to recognize those same feelings.

And sometimes we need to cycle down that road a few times before the unknown path becomes less scary.

So I hope that you trust in that gut instinct,

Those things that inspire you.

I hope that you learn to look after yourself because if you want to discover your purpose,

You will find that journey down your road of self-care and self-love.

If you need any support,

Please reach out.

I hope that you all enjoy your weekend because your weekend is your time to rest and recharge.

And if you need the reminder,

Your lunch breaks are also that opportunity to rest and recharge.

So if you find that you're eating through your lunch breaks at your desk or you're still working,

I want to encourage you,

See if you can step away from your desk,

See if you can go outside,

Go find somewhere else nice to eat,

Or at least just step away from the work and allow your mind to rest and to slow down and encourage that healthy hormonal feedback where we are not in that fight or flight mode of adrenaline being pumped out all the time,

But we get that noradrenaline feedback,

Which tells your body,

Okay,

We're safe.

We don't need to feel stressed anymore.

This is our time to rest and recharge.

So enjoy your weekend,

Dear ones.

I hope that you have a lovely time.

I hope that you're enjoying life.

I hope you're enjoying this podcast as well.

And I love you all dearly.

Until next time,

Bye for now.
