When it comes to jaw issues,
There's a lot of exercises that you can do to start to rebalance your oral facial system there's the tongue position that's really important to Relax the chewing muscles and to restore balance within the system Breathing is really important All these things are fundamental points that should be looked at when tackling jaw issues like teeth grinding clenching TMJ disorder Whatever it may be.
So One thing that often isn't looked at by a lot of people and something that's really important if you currently have jaw issues To look at is habits habits in your system so habits can be things that you just thought were part of who you are like biting nails You know and doing that consistently and you can imagine doing these things in your system create tension Tension that's not normal and that contributes to the stress that might already be there if the tongues not resting in the right position If there's other disbalances within the system or even emotionally So,
What do you do what do you do with these habits First thing is find out maybe you already know what your habits are maybe you have no idea and it's time to Start to investigate a little bit and the best way to do that is to ask friends ask family Look up pictures.
Look at videos of yourself.
What do you do and That the most important thing is to not look at it and this is my favorite thing that I say when I speak to clients or Customers of Kiefer Freund,
Which is our holistic jaw app where we have lots of exercises in there Maybe you're already a customer and this is a social media video or an audio or something like that that you're listening to but The most important thing is not to be an angry detective so not to Let it be another stress that contributes to tension in your body and in your system But let it be something that you're curious about What is it that I do Okay,
I see it again it's happening again,
You know like oh get it again And this is really important because if you address it with the same tension that caused it It's not gonna work.
You're gonna need a different solution a different approach right and Then the next thing to do is Firstly find out what is it that I'm actually doing this might be the biting your nails Whatever it is that you've got going on.
The second thing to find out is Why am I doing it?
What is it this thing gives me because I'm not just doing it for the fun of it most likely I'm doing it because it helps me to Release something or it helps me to create a Recreate a sense of balance,
Right?
So maybe there's too much tension and then the nails get bitten to Have something to ground yourself in that moment or just something to Yeah,
Like a release,
You know so the the point is Make a list of What is that you do?
And then look at common things that don't involve speaking like washing up right because when you're speaking you can't really observe what you're doing with your you know the things in your oral facial system but um look at driving look at washing up look at being in the shower look at shopping and Look at where is your tongue?
How is your jaw?
How is your breathing?
How's your breathing and Make a note of these things and just start to gain awareness with that playful undertone to it right not angry but playful and Once you've done that really getting clear on what is the feeling behind this and what am I using this for?
Right and Then another thing that you can do Of course is work with the feeling so that if you can actually address the feeling if it is Stress,
Sorry.
I've got some kids playing in the background here.
But um,
You see that they're they're playful That's what we want to reconnect with on this journey of healing our jaw issue.
That is It's there for a reason,
You know,
It's not there to punish us.
It's just something Our body is reacting to something and It's a brilliant invitation amazing invitation to grow as a person and to understand ourselves deeper So let's say the emotion you're getting clear on what feeling is connected to maybe is It only happens when you're at home or it only happens when you're at work and you're feeling a certain feeling Then you can start to integrate that feeling in meditation in different Forms of dealing with emotions and feel free to to reach out to us if you want some more guidance on that and I'm sure we'll get the chance to record some more videos and that in the future specifically geared towards emotions linked to the jaw Because that's what we do with the jaw guys Helping you holistically that's that's really our our goal but but most importantly we're not really the ones helping you We're supporting you and you're helping yourself.
You're taking self-responsibility for yourself and Your reactions and the way the way you are and the way you can be So See the emotions work with them maybe that can already start to Take out some of the pressure and and reduce the need to to act out these certain habits Right,
Then the other thing is This is this is again a childlike playful one But get it if you know you if you know your habit right get in front of the mirror and act it out in a very playful way so if my habit is Biting my lips like this.
I could just get in front of the mirror and go You know kind of like overdo it and what I'm doing is I'm just going to get in front of the mirror and Do it and when you do that It just when something becomes funny,
You know that too like laughter is the best medicine there's less a there's less stress about it and and two is like When you make it comical You don't feel like you need to do it all the time right like making something comical just takes the The need to do it out of it just like oh,
Yeah,
This is actually kind of funny like do I do I need to keep Doing this this kind of silly actually And not not to judge yourself for doing it But it just reframes the whole thing so it's no longer as serious and as attractive to you as a form of As an attempt to balance which actually creates disbalance within the system Right,
And maybe you can let it go And at the same time work with the emotion so that you don't then move over to doing something else Which wouldn't really solve the problem But might help with it with the jaw in the short term So really working with these things and being real with ourself Taking self-responsibility.
That's that's one of the key pillars and and foundations that we believe in at Kiefer Freund is um Yeah,
As I just said And lastly the really important point of the tongue resting position,
Which is at the palate or the tongue up at the palate and when you do that a lot of the um so so firstly your whole system actually becomes parasympathetic dominant and When the when the tongue is resting at the palate that signals to your body is time for rest and digest When it's not there,
It's more of a sympathetic stress state So that's really good to already take out some of the pressure that might be leading to your habits And gives you something else to focus on The second point is that a lot of habits might not actually be possible because they might actually involve your tongue Moving it somewhere Doing something but when your tongue is resting at the palate your lips are closed your jaw is relaxed Then a lot of habits might not even be possible and if you keep thinking about this you keep remembering this then that's a really uh good way to kind of address the habit before they happen or or kind of stop them from Reoccurring and to consciously change the way that you deal with Whatever you're dealing with whatever you're going through and you're looking for balance Now The other thing there is the breathing right?
So Not breathing through the mouth but Tongue in the right position jaw relaxed lips closed And then breathing through the nose Again this is going to help to relax your whole system and when you watch yourself in terms of what you're doing when you're shopping when you're driving when you're Going about your day trying to be conscious of the breathing the tongue the jaw and This will be greatly helpful for you to be able to relax your whole system This will be greatly helpful for you.
Hopefully in terms of working on these habits that cause disbalance within the system and Yeah,
Really we've seen with a lot of people once they start to address these habits they can make Big differences in terms of getting rid of jaw issues that have been there for quite some time Or maybe even something newer,
But that is something to keep in mind and to look at and uh,
Yeah,
