Welcome to the Daily Insight.
My name is Kevin Griffin.
Today I'd like to offer a practice I call Sitting Like a Mountain,
Melting Like Snow.
Begin by establishing an upright posture.
Try to find a place of comfort and balance in which you can sit absolutely still.
You might try rocking front to back or side to side until you find the center point,
The point of balance and alignment for your posture.
Let the body be completely still,
Not moving the hands or the head or the torso.
Feeling the body sitting like a mountain.
And the mountain breathes.
Even within that stillness,
We feel the movement of breath.
As we settle with the stillness,
Notice too the sensations in the body,
The energy coursing through the body.
This is the melting snow.
Imagine that the energy in the body is flowing down towards the earth like melting snow off a mountainside.
The mountain is not moved by the melting snow.
And as the snow melt flows into the earth,
We become even more grounded,
More stable.
Feel these contrasting elements,
The mountain immovable,
The snow melt flowing.
The mind is like these elements,
Still yet flowing.
Notice any resistance or tension.
And again with the stillness.
Release that.
Let that flow out like the snow melting off the mountainside.
Relax into the ease of stillness.
When the bell rings,
Move the body to the body again,
But still keeping that inner stillness.
