This meditation is all about experiencing gratitude for your skin.
I know,
You probably never really thought about this before,
Huh?
We tend not to think about our skin very much,
Except when we're poking it and prodding at it and examining it and judging it and looking in the mirror,
Looking at wrinkles and saying,
Those aren't okay,
Or looking at freckles and judging them is not quite right.
We nitpick at our skin a lot,
But we very rarely give gratitude for it.
And it's the biggest organ in our body.
Without it,
Well,
The human experience would be very messy.
So come on in to your meditation posture of choice.
Maybe that's sitting in a chair,
Maybe it's sitting cross-legged,
Maybe it's leaning against a wall,
Maybe it's lying down,
Maybe it's lying down with your legs up the wall,
Whatever feels good to you right this second.
Get in that position and close your eyes and allow yourself to arrive.
Welcome,
I'm so glad you're here.
Let's start the soles of our feet.
Bring your attention down to the bottom of your feet.
Those thick pads that allow us to walk on this beautiful earth and allow us to connect with Mother Earth.
They keep all of bones of the foot safe and secure.
Package them all up so that we step on grass.
The grass doesn't go in between our bones.
It doesn't get in our muscles.
It doesn't mess everything up.
The soles of our feet are our connection with what is greater than us.
Give so much gratitude for those funny little pads of skin at the bottom of what we consider us.
And bring your attention up to the skin of your ankles and your lower legs.
This is what allows us to walk through tall grass without getting little bits of tall grass inside our bodies.
Allow yourself to feel so much appreciation and gratitude for the skin that is our outer package.
And let's give gratitude for the skin as the whole organ itself.
Whether it's rough or smooth or freckled or not freckled,
No matter what color it is,
Whether it's itchy right now or not itchy,
Whether it's got bug bites on it or not,
No matter what condition it's in,
So much gratitude,
It protects you from the outer world.
And it receives the outer world.
It receives the environment.
So our skin doesn't just connect us with the earth beneath our feet.
It also receives sunlight.
It receives that vitamin D.
It processes it for us.
How magical is that?
And let's give a whole bunch of gratitude to the skin on our hands.
The skin that is so flexible,
That allows us to feel when we hold hands with someone else,
That allows us to feel when we pat a puppy,
It allows us to feel temperature.
And of course on our fingertips,
We each have a very unique fingerprint.
It is only for us.
Thank you skin.
Again,
You are magical.
You are me.
I am you.
You keep me whole.
And bring so much gratitude forward for the skin on your face.
The skin that probably gets picked on the most by us awkward humans,
Looking at ourselves in the mirror,
Being like,
What?
I look like that?
Yes,
You look like that.
And you are beautiful.
You are majestic.
And even if your skin looks different than it did yesterday or different than it did 20 years ago,
This is your skin.
It has been serving you since day one.
It gives you the magic of touch,
Whether we are touching another human or touching an animal.
And this is how we feel safety,
How we experience love,
How we feel deep radiant connection.
Thank you skin.
And let yourself scan your body completely.
Just looking from a bird's eye view at the marvel that is your skin.
It covers your muscles and your bones and your ligaments and holds all that juicy stuff in.
Thank you skin.
Sometimes it's covered in sweat and evaporating for us or helping us with that evaporation process so we can cool.
Again,
Magic.
Thank you skin.
As we come towards the end of this meditation,
Let's just drop in a question.
What else does my skin do for me?
Allow the answers to arise.
And as they do,
Allow your heart to fill with gratitude and just send out that gratitude for this magical,
Amazing,
Ginormous organ.
Thank you skin.
And as you feel complete,
You can start to wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes and feel the magic that is wiggling your fingers and wiggling your toes.
Maybe your fingers and toes are rubbing against each other.
Maybe you're feeling the magic of your skin touching your skin.
Allow yourself to feel love for this amazing piece of you.
And as you're ready,
Open your eyes and have an amazing day.
I love you.
