“And after the fire came a still small voice” is a Biblical quote some scholars use to represent this work by Sergei Rachmaninoff. This Adagio sostenuto is placed between two faster works. His Op. 16 “Musical Moments” are a set of 6 pieces with inspiration from Chopin and Schubert. Imagine enjoying the solitude on water, with the music’s calming Barcarolle feel. Rachmaninoff chose simple musical ideas rather than virtuosity. May you find comfort while listening. Photo Credit: Huzeyfe Turan
