To A Wild Rose (MacDowell) Piano Solo
by JohnWillard
This short piece is inspired by nature, referenced to a flower. This is the first piece in Edward MacDowell’s “Woodland Sketches” Op. 51. An American composer who studied in Germany, MacDowell was influenced by Native American themes. Its melody is credited to the Brotherton tribe. With its simplicity, a touch of Romanticism, and soft dynamic level, may his work evoke a feeling of calmness, serenity, and appreciation for the natural elegance of Mother Nature.
