Ave Maria, D. 839 By Schubert/Arr. Heller (Piano Solo)
by JohnWillard
Originally titled Ellen’s Third Song, (Ellens Gesang III, Hymne an die Jungfrau/Hymn to the Virgin) Schubert set this melody to the text of Sir Walter Scott’s epic poem, “The Lady of the Lake.” Scott’s poem describes Ellen Douglas hiding with her father in a cave to avoid the revenge of King James. Ellen sings a prayer for help to the Virgin Mary, accompanied by a harp. One of seven songs in Schubert’s cycle. May Schubert’s melody provide you peace and comfort. Photo by Anuja Mary Tilj-Unsplash
