My experience,

Each organization has a different purpose of meditation.

What is the purpose of meditation in Jeongto?

I think it all depends on individuals within Jeongto.

So the goal that we pursue is to become human beings,

Individuals without suffering.

Using Buddhist jargon,

We want to achieve Nirvana.

To be without suffering,

You have to diagnose why you suffer in the first place and get rid of the underlying cause.

Then you have to look into when do I suffer?

When do these negative thoughts that we call suffering arises within me?

The first case is when you have illicit desire,

When you have this sense of greed or desire.

If you follow your desire,

You create certain karma.

If you suppress your desire,

You create stress.

So desire becomes a source of suffering either way.

The second,

We are creatures of habits.

We have certain habits of the mind,

Of personality,

Of emotions that it seeks to impose itself upon us.

And when it doesn't get its way,

Then you get angry and you get stressed out.

And third cause of suffering is when we look at others and we start judging the others as that person is right or wrong.

So the majority of the suffering that's caused within us are caused by these three factors,

Whether that's desire or your sense of your habitual personality,

Emotions or your judgmental nature of others.

So when these things happen,

Your mind gets excited.

That's why it's important to maintain a sense of equanimity.

And know the moment that these causes of suffering arises within your own mind.

And be aware that you are not overcome by the waves of these sufferings.

And then you take away the underlying cause of your own suffering.

And meditation is a matter of practicing this.

Relax your mind.

And by focusing on the tip of your nose,

And have clear awareness of the breath in and breath out.

Whatever noise you hear from the outside,

Whatever sensation you feel from the inside,

Whether you're sleepy,

Whatever thought arises from the past,

Whatever ideas of the future comes to you,

Without being restricted by these,

Without being interfered by these,

You're only focusing on the breath in and the breath out.

And once you practice this,

In our everyday lives,

Whether we see it through our eyes or hear,

Or we smell or taste,

Whether we touch,

Wherever we think something,

Our mind is not constrained or influenced by this.

And if you become aware of your own mind reacting to this stimulants,

You're no longer swept up by your own desires.

You're no longer following your own personality,

Your habits.

You no longer allow yourself to be so judgmental.

You're able to stabilize your mind at a relaxed state.

Therefore,

We can say in Jungto,

We practice meditation to become individuals without suffering,

To achieve that state of nirvana.

It's a prerequisite in reality.

We relax our mind and body.

Relax the physical fatigue of the body.

And melt away the stress of your mind.

And really give our mind and body a full rest.

And this is the minimum objective we seek to attain.

Well,

That's the threshold.

The ultimate objective is to live a life without suffering.
