How can I meditate well without intending to meditate well?
You have to stop thinking wanting to meditate well.
In other areas of your life,
Maybe intending to do well will actually lead you to perform well.
But at the same time,
Many times,
The intent to do well,
To strive to do well,
Actually act as an obstacle to performing well.
And oftentimes,
Letting go of the thought that you want to do well and letting go of your desire to do well will actually lead you to perform better.
So it is a desire that's represented by the intent to do well that's going to bring about suffering if the end result is not what you expected.
Meditation is all about freeing yourself from this suffering.
If you want to free yourself from that suffering,
You have to let go of any intent.
So when you're doing meditation,
You're doing what's needed in a calm and a peaceful way without intent.
You don't need a special skill or you don't need to investigate something special to do meditation.
You let go of all intent.
All you're doing is becoming aware of what's happening in the here and now.
You're not intending to effect a certain action.
You are just observing what's happening in the here and now.
Therefore,
Intent to do well in meditation is actually one of the biggest obstacles to meditation.
If you intend to do well in meditation,
You actually turn meditation into work.
Then you tend to evaluate at the end whether you really did do meditation well or not.
But with meditation,
Since you let go of your desire to do well or any intent to do well,
There is no follow on evaluation whether you performed well or not.

You don't need a lot of different methods to quit smoking.
But when you quit smoking,
It's just a simple matter of quitting smoking.
You don't need a lot of different methods to quit smoking.
