Hello,
This is a meditation to help you move through your surgery or procedure and recovery as smoothly as possible.
There is strong evidence that imagery can decrease your discomfort and speed your recovery.
Find a comfortable and safe place where you can sit still.
Inhale and exhale getting comfortable.
Let yourself settle down.
Getting really comfortable.
And now bring an imaginary spotlight over the top of your head.
Relaxing whatever it touches.
It is the perfect temperature for you.
Whether you want to cool or warm.
The spotlight warms or cools the top of your head releasing the muscles there.
Now your forehead.
The space between your eyebrows.
Your eyebrows.
Your eyelashes.
Your eyelids.
Even your eyes.
And now your temples.
Your jawline.
Your nose and cheeks.
Now your lips.
Your tongue.
Your whole face.
Your ears.
Now the back of your head.
Down your neck.
And now your right shoulder and neck.
Down your arm.
Your upper arm.
Elbow.
Forearm.
The palm of your right hand.
Hold the spotlight.
With its perfect temperature the palm of your right hand.
Make it into a tiny spotlight.
Bring it to your thumb.
Second finger.
Third finger.
Fourth finger.
And fifth finger.
And now your entire right arm and hand.
Bring the spotlight over your left neck and shoulder.
Your left upper arm.
Elbow.
Forearm.
Bring it into the palm of your left hand.
Warming or cooling.
Whatever you need.
Now make it tiny and put it onto your thumb.
Second finger.
Third finger.
Fourth finger.
Fifth finger.
And now your whole entire left arm.
Now bring the spotlight over your throat.
Your chest.
Loosening the muscles there.
Your belly.
Now back up over your neck.
Back of your neck.
And down your spine.
Vertebra by vertebra by vertebra.
All the way down.
Releasing those paraspinal muscles in your shoulders.
And now your right leg.
Your upper leg.
Knee behind the knee.
Chin,
Calf,
Ankle,
Top of the foot,
Bottom of the foot.
And your toes.
First,
Second,
Third,
Fourth,
And fifth.
Now your whole right leg.
Now your left leg.
Upper leg,
Knee behind the knee,
Shin,
Calf,
The top of the left foot,
The bottom of the left foot.
And toes.
First,
Second,
Third,
Fourth,
And fifth.
Now your entire left leg.
Now bring the spotlight over your entire front of your body from head down to your toes.
Just the front.
Release.
Now just the back of your body from the head down to your toes.
And release.
Now bring this light back up to the top of your head and scan your entire body touching every single muscle in your entire body.
Releasing anything that's left over.
Take a deep breath in.
And exhale,
Release.
Now imagine a place where you feel safe and peaceful.
It could be real or imaginary.
Doesn't matter as long as it feels safe and peaceful for you.
Perhaps it's a place in nature or a garden or perhaps at the beach.
Or maybe it's a cozy room in your house.
Listen to the sounds,
The smell of this place.
Perhaps there's a breeze or a warm cozy fire.
Perhaps there is a sense of flowers or sea air or your favorite meal cooking.
Just sit in the comfort of this space for a few minutes.
Smelling,
Seeing,
Tasting,
Hearing.
Smelling the gentle comfort.
Now gently releasing this scene.
Allow some wishes to come for yourself.
May I be well.
May I be happy.
May I move through this situation with ease.
See yourself healing,
Calm,
And trusting of the expert hands that will help you heal and help you recover.
Now bring the wishes for all those people who will make it possible for you to have the best care.
Your doctors,
Your nurses,
Even the people that you may not see behind the scenes.
May you be well.
May you be happy.
May you move through life with ease.
This relaxation response will help your body heal down to the cellular level.
Your relaxation is contagious and helpful to relax all of those around you.
Trusting the healthcare team who work with you to help you and heal you with all of their years of expertise and dedication and knowledge.
The relaxation allows your body to cooperate to make things go smoothly.
Having gratitude directly affecting your immune response and all the kindness and caring that you receive and give.
See yourself healing with ease.
See yourself moving again.
Doing your favorite activities.
Understanding deeply that your body is intelligent,
Your brain and your nervous system work together to heal from the cellular level.
Feeling peaceful and easy.
Accepting of all that is.
Breathing in and out.
Knowing that you've taken this time to heal.
Exhale deeply coming back to the room and exhale relaxing into the chair.
Now move or stretch or just stay relaxed whatever feels right to you for now.
Feeling ready for whatever is coming next.
Know that you can come back to this safe and comfortable feeling simply by taking a deep breath in and exhaling slowly as you release the muscles with an imaginary spotlight over your head down your entire body.
