Welcome to this guided meditation for honouring and healing your relationship with your gut.
As you probably already know,
The gut and the mind have an intimate connection,
And sometimes when we have chronic issues with our digestion,
It's tied up with what's happening in our minds.
The good news is that we can often soothe our guts by employing our minds and our imagination.
Let's start by getting comfortable.
You can do this meditation seated or laying down.
Adjust yourself as you need to.
You might want to fidget a bit or take a few deep breaths to settle in.
Take a moment to acknowledge the room that you're in,
The temperature of the air,
The quality of the light behind your eyes,
The mood of this room.
Notice the earth below you,
The parts of your body that are in contact with the surface you are resting on.
Acknowledge the land that you are on and your relationship with that land,
Which is both historical,
Cultural,
And also intimate.
Soften your body into the support of the earth.
Feel your body sinking with each exhale,
Releasing tension from the forehead,
The eyes,
The jaw,
The mouth,
Softening the shoulders,
The back,
The muscles in the belly.
Soften your hips,
Your legs,
Your feet.
Your whole body is soft and receptive,
Supported by the earth beneath you.
Now imagine that you are in a beautiful garden.
The air is fresh and clean.
The scent of your favorite flowers is on the air.
The garden is wide and spacious,
Filled with bright red and pink blossoms,
Yellow petals,
Clusters of blue and purple flowers.
There are tall trees here,
Their long leaves cascading toward the earth,
Ripe fruits growing from each one in different colors.
Take a deep breath,
Receiving the healthy feeling of the air in this garden.
You feel safe and comfortable here.
Everything feels right.
Your body is softening even more in this beautiful place.
It is as if every tree and flower is offering your body something that it wants,
Something that it needs.
You can feel your stomach settling.
Your nervous system feels calm and at ease.
Your gut can feel the safety here,
The nutritious feeling of the clean air,
And it is remembering gently how to work optimally.
It is remembering how to move at a steady and healthy pace.
It is remembering how to absorb the nutrients it needs and release what it does not.
Your belly feels calm and easeful,
Like a gentle river,
All the water moving comfortably in the same direction.
You wander this beautiful garden for a while,
And after a while you find a smooth wooden bench near a beautiful fruit tree.
One of the fruits falls into your palm.
It is a warm sunset orange color,
Almost pink,
Its skin smooth and soft,
Fitting perfectly in your palm.
You bring the fruit to your nose and inhale deeply,
Its smell inviting,
Sweet and floral,
Delicious.
This fruit was designed for you,
To be medicine for the inside of your body.
You take a bite,
And it is the most perfect taste for you,
Perfectly delicious and perfectly satisfying.
There is medicine in this special fruit,
Grown here just for you.
It has everything your body needs.
It knows how to soothe and balance your gut.
As you chew and swallow this delicious fruit,
Your body receives it through each part of your digestive system.
As you do,
The nutrients in the fruit gently alter the functioning of your gut for the better.
It calms the areas that need soothing.
It awakens the parts that need to awaken.
It cleanses anything that doesn't belong here in your body anymore,
Both physically and also energetically,
So that when the time is right,
Your body can simply release these waste products.
Having eaten the fruit,
You feel wonderful.
You feel safe and calm and healthy.
Something has changed about your body for the better,
And from here on out,
Things will continue to improve on the whole over time.
You may return here to eat the fruit again any time you need to.
This garden was created for you.
The fruit tree created food specifically for your body,
As medicine for your gut and your mind.
You may rest in this wonderful place as long as you would like to.
When you feel ready to move out of this meditation and continue on with your day,
You can begin to deepen your breath.
Start to bring your awareness slowly back into the room that you're in.
Perhaps you'd like to invite some small movements for your fingers and toes,
Maybe even take a big stretch to wake up your body.
Thank you for listening,
And enjoy the rest of your day.
