This practice is inspired by the concept from Ayurvedic medicine that anger, frustration, or irritation can sometimes be caused by an overabundance of pitta, the element of fire, in the system. After a cooling breath exercise, imagine yourself in a cool, dewy forest, dipping your tired feet into the beautiful, healing, cleansing waters of the forest. If you like this practice, follow me to stay tuned for two attending meditations to balance earth and air.

Meditation Medication Part 2 of 3,

Cooling meditation for anger,

Frustration,

Or inflammation.

This meditation can be done seated,

But it can be quite nice to take this meditation in a nice comfortable lying down position like Shavasana.

Today we're going to balance out any feelings of anger,

Irritation,

Frustration,

Inflammation,

Pain,

Or simply feeling overheated with a calming,

Cooling meditation.

Allow your breath to deepen and soften.

Take a moment to notice how you feel without needing to judge it or fix it right away.

Just notice if you're feeling anger,

Irritation,

Or frustration.

Sometimes these emotions require action,

But now is not the time for that action.

Right now,

Consider that these emotions are a manifestation of heat in your body,

Like a flame that has gone a little bit out of control.

As we allow your body,

Your mind,

And your nervous system to cool down,

Literally and metaphorically,

Trust that you will be able to make any decisions you may need to make later with a cooler,

Calmer mind.

Next time you inhale,

Purse your lips like you're sipping through a straw.

This can also be done with a rolled tongue.

Sip the air in through your mouth as you inhale,

And then close your mouth down as you exhale through your nose.

Again,

Sip air in through your mouth with pursed lips or a rolled tongue,

And then close your mouth around your cooled-down tongue as you exhale out of your nose.

This breath practice is called chi tali.

Each inhale cools down the tongue,

Which the body perceives on the exhale at the nose.

This breath exercise can also slow down your breath,

Especially your exhale,

Which is calming and cooling for your mind and body.

Take several more slow,

Deep inhales through pursed lips and slow,

Calm,

Relaxed exhales out the nose.

Now I invite you to imagine that you are sitting or lying as you are beside a great old tree.

You are resting on a bed of moss that is slightly dewy,

Holding small drops of crystal clear water between its tendrils.

You are in a beautiful rainforest,

Surrounded by trees and colorful flowers,

Fed by abundant rainwater.

The air is slightly cool but very comfortable,

And you are very relaxed on your soft bed of moss.

From this calming and restful place,

You can hear the sound of water flowing,

The gentle babbling of a nearby brook.

Find your way to your feet and walk towards the water,

Feeling your bare feet on the cool,

Soft earth beneath you as you walk.

A short distance away,

You come across this beautiful babbling brook.

You look into the clear water,

Flowing gently and constantly over smooth stones and pebbles.

Brightly colored fish play in the water.

You feel very calm and safe in this environment,

And you know you belong in this rainforest,

Near this flowing brook of your imagination.

You wade into the water,

Letting it wash over your tired feet.

You lean down and put your hands into the water as well,

Feeling the flow of the clear water over your fingertips.

You know that this is a place where you can rinse away whatever you've been holding onto that you don't need.

You continue to spend time in the water,

Letting it wash away whatever you don't need from your body and your mind,

Trusting that you don't even need to know what's being washed away.

You can trust that the healing is happening simply by being in this special brook.

As you continue to explore this beautiful stream of flowing water,

You come upon its source,

A beautiful waterfall surrounded by green trees,

Filling a clear blue pool of healing water leading into the brook.

You wade deeper into this water wonderland,

Find yourself right beneath the waterfall.

The healing waters flow over your entire body,

Over your scalp and face,

Your shoulders,

Your chest and belly,

Down your legs and to your feet.

It feels very sweet and delightful to let the water flow over your skin.

Take your time to enjoy the feeling of the cooling,

Calming waters flowing over your body.

Let this water cleanse you and nourish you,

Taking away what you don't need and offering you whatever it is you do need.

When your playful healing time in the water feels complete,

You step out and allow your feet to return to the earth.

The light warmth of the air around you dries your hair and your skin,

And as you walk slowly back to your soft bed of moss,

You feel cleansed and refreshed,

Your mind calm and clear,

Your skin soft.

Only you find your way back to the bed of moss where you started.

It was soft and sweet and comforting to return to.

You are welcome to stay here as long as you like.

This is a space that belongs to you.

It's a space where you belong.

Before you're ready to return to your day,

Please enjoy a calm,

Cool,

And relaxed rest of your day.

Thank you for listening.

Another wonderful meditation from this teacher. I appreciated the explanation of the breath practice. I have never consciously done that type before. I also appreciated spending time in the water in various ways. Many thanks for offering this.

This is one of the best and most effective practices I have ever tried in releasing anger, frustration, impatience, clouded thinking, and even physical pain. Waterfalls in particular have always been a source of pull for me, and having one in this practice as a helpful assist was absolutely wonderful. Bookmarked and downloaded this as one of the newest additions to my permanent "go-to" library of practices for a variety of purposes. Thank you so much for sharing this with me and the world. I see the light in you. 🀲❀️🀲
