In the beginning of this practice, we come into child's pose, known as balasana, to let go and surrender to any old habits from the year before that no longer serve us, and we cultivate a new and brighter vision that does not contain the past or the future but the present moment and what we wish to bring into the moment with us. Then we transition into fetal pose, known as either parsva savasana, which means side fetal pose or side savasana; the pose of laying flat on our backs with our palms facing up and feet straight ahead. This practice allows us to get rid of old blocks, release them and move forward in our lives. But most importantly, this final pose signals rebirth, perhaps letting the old things lay dormant and moving ahead with a fresh, healthy and stronger mindset. This practice ends without words, instead a lovely space of music to allow us to slip into a completely relaxed state.

Transcript

I release all things from the past year that has caused unhealthy attachments to any possessions,

People,

Places,

Things,

Or outcomes,

Even to thoughts that I'm finding myself not consciously thinking of.

I prepare and welcome new changes,

New lessons,

And new adventures.

I welcome new opportunities to grow emotionally,

Mentally,

And spiritually.

If you find yourself getting lost along the way,

Bring yourself back to this practice of focusing on your breath so your mind doesn't get caught up in its fictitious stories.

All we have right now is this breath in this very moment.

And in the next moment,

Another breath.

Don't try to recapture the ones that came before now.

Just know there will always be another available to you as your effortless source of power.

Remember that this journey is an inward one.

We cannot control what is outside of our bodies,

Only what's in.

To set the intention for the new year,

We are going to start in Child's Pose,

Also called Balasana in Sanskrit.

So bring your feet together and knees together.

Your chest should be on your thighs and hands extended out in front of you.

Picture yourself letting go of old habits that no longer serve you.

Pay attention to the repetitive thinking cycles that you find yourself getting stuck on more than usual.

What is considered a struggle for someone else might not be for another.

It varies from person to person.

This is how we get to know ourselves through our practice.

This pose gives us an opportunity to connect to the divine inner child in all of us.

We are still that 8 or 9 year old self.

We're the same person.

We just have evolved.

Just be in this childlike state of surrender.

Feel what that feels like to be in an effortless flow of non-doing.

Just be.

F You If you'd like to take a few more minutes in this posture,

You may pause the video now.

I will continue on.

For the second half of this meditation,

We will be in a fetal pose known as Parsva Shavasana.

So face whatever side of the room you would like,

Knee over knee and both hands together,

To reflect on what you'd like to change in your life.

And to bring forth what you'd like to manifest in this new state of transforming ourselves.

But in order to do this,

We had to have fully mastered letting the old die.

We cannot have a rebirth if we are reliving the same stories of yesterday over and over.

This new beginning might be a lonely one,

Since no one can set an intention or do our healing for us,

But ourselves.

You have a choice this new year.

To either apply an old formula to a new level in your life,

Or to change the formula to something new.

Who knows,

It may just bring a different result,

A more favorable one perhaps.

I bow to the light that is already within you.

Namaste.

Namaste.
