When you're stressed,

You're subconsciously telling your body you're not in a safe and secure environment.

Instead,

Let's cultivate inner peace,

So the chaos doesn't affect you as much emotionally.

How do you cultivate that inner peace?

Let's start by practicing feeling safe.

We're going to activate your root chakra.

This is located at the base of your spine and helps you feel secure.

Sit with your legs extended in front of you.

Inhale,

And as you exhale,

Bend at the hips and slowly fold forward.

Grab your toes if you can.

Hold this position for five counts,

And with each mental count,

Clench your anus and then release.

Then slowly bend upward into your original seated position.

Do this forward fold five times.

Sit upright and feel grounded into the floor.

Imagine a root connecting you and the ground,

Pulling yourself downward.

Tense and relax your anus five more times with your eyes closed.

Practice the Hong-Sau breathing technique for two minutes.

When you naturally inhale,

Mentally say Hong.

As you exhale,

Mentally say Sau.

Hong,

Sau.

Don't control your breath,

Just watch it.

Mentally tie the mantra to your breathing.

Hong,

Sau.

Don't control your breath,

Just watch it.

Release the Hong-Sau practice and imagine cuddling a baby.

It's wrapped up in a cozy swaddle,

Safe and warm.

The baby looks up at you and smiles.

Hug the baby.

Whisper to the baby,

Telling them they are safe.

Enjoy this for as long as it feels good.

When you're ready,

Imagine yourself as that baby.

Feel the warmth of the swaddle.

Enjoy the safety of a parent's loving arms.

Breathe in that safety with a slow inhale through your nose.

And release gratitude for the feeling on the deep exhale out.

Take another deep breath and say aloud,

I am safe.

Softer now.

I am safe.

Whisper,

I am safe.

Now mentally repeat with great conviction,

I am safe.

Breathe in that feeling with a slow inhale.

Tighten your anus muscles again.

As you exhale and release your muscles,

Imagine roots from a tree connecting you to the ground beneath you.

You are safe.

This is an easy affirmation to whisper to yourself throughout the day,

Especially while at work.

Whenever anything contentious arises in your day,

Constantly remind yourself that whatever is going on out there,

Inside you're at peace.

Try to remind yourself that circumstances are neutral,

But it's our emotional reaction to them that gives things power.

Take your power back.

Remind yourself that you are safe.
