My name is Joey.
What is joy to you and how do you cultivate it?
In this mental imagery meditation today,
We embrace joy as a feeling of effortless flow and movement,
But also as a feeling of stillness and tranquility.
So getting nice and comfortable in a chair,
Close your eyes and begin to take a couple of nice deep breaths in and out.
And as your eyes are closed and your head is slightly lifted,
I would like you to imagine you are looking up towards the big bright sun.
Take another deep breath in and out.
What does your face do as you look toward the sun?
You notice you can't help but to squint your eyes and naturally smile.
It is no wonder we smile when we look towards this massive and amazing light.
It is quite incredible the sun.
You begin to feel the warmth of the sun on your face as you continue to breathe in and out,
Getting more and more relaxed.
You shift your closed eyes slightly to the left of the sun and see a kite flying joyfully with the wind.
You now realize you are holding the handle with the attached string.
The kite doesn't need direction,
It just goes where it naturally goes.
You can hear it flapping as it sways in all directions and you are still smiling as you watch it and hold it strong.
You are beginning to catch the feeling of joy,
Knowing that this allowing of movement is the key to the dancing of the kite.
As you continue to squint and smile looking up at this kite,
You take another deep breath in and out.
As you begin to feel your body swaying as if you are the kite itself.
You are freely moving with a carefree attitude and with each twist and turn and fluid movement you more and more are catching the feeling of joy.
The joy of flow.
The joy of freedom.
The joy of just being you.
The joy of effortless living.
The joy of stillness in one moment and then the joy of the wind in your face the next.
You now feel that wind in your face and that also causes the face to smile.
You naturally turn and swoop down and up,
Flying freely,
Still with the sense of carefree fun and lightheartedness.
You breathe in and out again,
Soaking in the sun and wind as you are one with nature,
Flowing freely and joyfully.
You are a being of pure light and energy and you feel that light radiating through you and in you now.
You center yourself back into your body with your eyes closed,
But still feeling the warmth of the sun.
Your feet are now grounded on the grass and you are safe and feeling peaceful as you are connected strongly to the earth.
You breathe in and out as you relax every part of your body.
Feeling the peace of the connection to nature and to your light and to the feeling of joy within you.
As you relax deeper and deeper,
You begin to feel this joy deep within you.
Joy comes with movement and laughter and flowing,
But also it is present in stillness and peaceful tranquility.
Go to that place now of still and quiet joy,
Breathing in and breathing out.
