This short, simple guided meditation will calm your anxiety. Although the results are temporary, it's short enough for you to practice as often as needed. Once you've become familiar with the practice, you can shorten it even more if you choose - taking a few breaths for each of the three steps.

Sit comfortably,

Close your eyes,

And let your breathing be easy and natural.

Take a few moments to pay attention to your breathing.

Notice your breath coming in,

And going out.

Simply notice your breath coming in,

And going out.

Now bring your attention to your solar plexus.

Your solar plexus is the seat of your emotional body,

Your emotional self.

Now relax the muscles of your solar plexus.

Gently relax the muscles of your solar plexus.

As you relax the muscles of your solar plexus,

Let all of your stomach muscles relax.

Now bring your attention to the sensations occurring within your upper body,

And feel those sensations.

Simply feel the sensations taking place within you.

These sensations are a blend of physical and emotional energy.

There is no need to label any specific emotions.

Just take a little time to feel the sensations within you.

However you experience them is okay.

Now imagine a candle flame.

Simply imagine a candle flame.

This candle flame represents your emotional self.

Imagine this candle flame as being very still.

Imagine the flame being as still as you can make it.

As you imagine the flame,

Notice the anxiety becoming calmer.

Notice the emotional turbulence becoming calmer.

If your sinuses were clogged,

Notice them clearing.

Now take a deep breath or two.

Take as long as you need,

And when you are ready,

Slowly open your eyes.

Be patient and go through it. I was in a lighted room while practicing, and as I went through the meditation and started to imagine the flame in a dim lighting setting, I totally forgot that I was sitted in a lighted room! When I opened my eyes, I was sort of disappointed! Haha.
