During the shopping season,
Where there are deals everywhere,
I used to get very,
Very excited.
I would stock up on things I may or may not need,
Because it was cheap,
Or I'd buy things that looked cool,
That I might need someday,
But not today.
This led to a lot of things throughout the years.
Now,
Did I need all these things?
Were they making me happy?
Not really,
But it wasn't until I found minimalism that I figured out how to make a shift.
Advertisers and marketers jobs is to sell you and get you to buy things.
And they're really good at it.
Especially inducing that feeling of,
I need that.
I really fell into this trap for a long time.
Sure,
I would donate old things to charity,
But then I would notice how much I was donating that I hardly even used.
So many things still had tags on them.
Are still in the original packaging.
And it got me thinking.
Do I really need all these things?
And how else could I invest this money?
Now,
Minimalism is not about having things or not buying new things.
But for me,
It's about having things that I really want and cherish,
Not for somebody else.
And of all the realizations I've had since going down this path.
Three released it out for me.
The first is that minimalism reduces stress.
I used to have so many different shirts,
And when I would go out,
I would spend countless time debating what should I wear.
Through minimalism,
I've reduced my decision fatigue by only keeping clothes that I really like to wear.
That way,
When I reach for something in my closet,
I know it's going to be something that I like.
Minimalism increases freedom.
I used to get overwhelmed thinking about all the things I needed to fit in.
If I'm going to be accepted by this group,
Then I need this.
Minimalism helped me realize that the only thing I need to fit in is whatever I feel like I need,
Not what I think I need to impress others.
Minimalism increases happiness.
I used to think if I just had this or that,
I'd be happy and I'd be all good.
Then,
Through minimalism,
I realized that I'm never going to be happy focusing on outer items.
What makes you happy is within.
This shift helped me realize that the only person who can truly make me happy is myself.
And minimalism helps create space for you to do that.
Reflect on this,
My friend,
And be happy.
