How I was programmed in the corporate world was that I always needed to be doing a task.
Now,
Was this because of others?
Or was it a story I was telling myself?
The story that if I'm not doing something,
That I must be slacking off.
Since leaving the corporate world,
I found myself throughout the day wanting to do a variety of things that wouldn't be deemed work.
Such things like going for a hike in the woods,
Investing some time with our horses,
Just sitting out in nature,
Or even just meditating.
When those feelings come up,
So do the stories I tell myself.
You can't do that now.
It's work time.
This isn't work.
You need to be doing something.
It's that last one that I really took time to reflect on.
As Winnie the Pooh likes to say,
Doing nothing often leads to the very best of something.
It took me a while to really get present with it.
And it's something that I talk about and I share with people,
But it's really hard to do.
You might think,
How can doing nothing be hard?
Well,
When you are programmed to always be doing,
Doing,
Doing,
It can be tough to stop and pause.
I'm not going to get something done.
I'm not going to be successful.
How is all this stuff going to get accomplished?
When you're able to release these stories you've been telling yourself,
You can really understand what Winnie the Pooh was talking about.
Doing nothing often leads to the very best of something because it gives you the space to think,
Reflect,
Create,
And actually do.
Without having that space,
You wouldn't be able to get clear on the vision and feelings you want to have in the future and understand what actions you need to take to get there.
So how are you going to create some space for yourself today?
