This guidance takes you on a short journey back to meet your younger self so that you can fill your Inner Child with the love and compassion that you cultivate in the present. It is a gentle way to begin to heal this younger self, to reconnect, understand, accept, and to take the medicine of love back to the you of the past; the inner child of the present.

Welcome to this guidance on reconnecting with and sending love to your inner child.

Prepare your body in a comfortable seated position or lying down.

Wherever you are,

Take any adjustments to ensure you can relax and feel fully at peace.

Inhale a deep breath through the nose.

Exhale gently close the eyes.

Exhale a deep breath through the nose.

Exhale relax the body with the knowledge that you are supported by whatever is beneath you and that you are safe in your surroundings.

Allow yourself this space to relax.

It's so natural for us to get caught in the flow of growing up and becoming adults that we often neglect the child that is still within us.

In some cases,

Due to the experiences we have through our life,

We've needed to cover and protect that inner child with barriers,

Defences,

Habits or routines.

Being aware that under all the layers we built to safeguard this child self and to survive through the circumstances,

Pressures and expectations of teenage and adulthood,

There is still our purest essence,

Free from the common tensions we take on throughout our adult lives.

Relax your mind and bring your awareness to your breath.

Beautiful and effortless.

Watch the breath as it moves in through the nose and out through the nose.

Begin to deepen the inhalations to the lowest part of the stomach,

Just like when a child breathes in,

Its tummy expands and then contracts.

Continue the inhalations through the nose and now use the mouth to slowly,

Softly and silently exhale.

Using the mouth to breathe immediately connects our consciousness with the heart.

It's easier to feel the space in the chest,

Release and relax with the breath moving out through the mouth.

Leave the breath,

Let it go back to its natural rhythm and flow.

Think of yourself as a child.

Whatever the first image is that comes into your mind,

Regardless of the age,

Stay with that and fix your mind on this image of your younger self.

What you look like,

What you were feeling around this time.

Did you have anything you loved to do?

Did you have any fears?

Imagine this version of you.

Where would you spend most of your happiest times?

The garden,

Your room,

The park,

Somewhere special where you felt safe.

See yourself in this area.

Begin to walk towards the younger you,

Slowly and carefully.

The closer you get,

The more you start to realise all that this child is,

All that it is in potential.

The experiences it's had so far,

The reality that it's surrounded by,

What it knows,

What it loves,

What it dreams,

What it fears.

As you approach,

You feel a deep sense of knowing that between this child and the adult that is approaching,

There have been so many experiences,

So many things that you wish you had known then,

So many chances,

Changes and challenges ahead of this young being.

Continue to go towards yourself,

Thinking of all that you would tell this version of you if you could.

When you are close enough to this child,

Extend your hand.

Give them the space and time to be confident enough to take it and wait as long as you need for this child to give you a big hug.

Allow it to embrace you and let it whisper forgiveness for any protective barriers that turned into difficult habits or tension.

Allow yourself to be at peace in the loving embrace of this child,

Heart to heart.

Without words,

Send this child reassurance that it will be okay.

Without words,

Send this child appreciation and gratitude for getting through all that you know it will face.

Without words,

Send this child hope,

Peace,

Send it patience.

Through this connection,

Send this child any messages that you feel it needs to hear.

Last of all,

Send this child love,

More love,

More love.

It is with this love that it can stay strong.

It is with this love that it can surrender.

With this love,

It can find the courage to heal.

With this love that it has as a foundation to always navigate its way back to centre,

It can return to balance,

Back to the safety of itself.

When you feel ready,

Gently part and allow this beautiful being to return to its activity.

And draw yourself,

Draw your awareness back to your chest.

Feel a lightness around the heart and know that with the power of your mind and heart combined,

Taking the light of self-love and wisdom that you cultivate in the day-to-day present.

Begin to focus on the breath,

Allowing and accepting any feelings,

Emotions or sensations without judgement.

By recognising and reconnecting to our inner child,

We can send our younger self the love,

Knowledge and wisdom we now have to heal through our past into the present.

Then we are able to better understand first ourselves and then others who may seem lost in the maze of adulthood,

To see through their defences to their child that hides within.

This allows us to deepen our compassion inside and outside.

Take a deep inhale through the nose,

Open the mouth and release the breath,

Relax the shoulders.

Inhale through the nose,

Exhale release through the mouth,

Relax the face and the jaw.

Inhale through the nose,

Exhale release through the mouth,

Relax the whole body.

Whatever you do from now,

Know you are loved.

This practice is now complete.

Namaste.

You
