This session offers a simple yet powerful practice for creating a personal mantra, one that supports you in taking your next best step, whatever form that step needs to take. Instead of overwhelming yourself by trying to change everything at once, we focus on grounding, clarity, and choosing one meaningful move forward. Through a guided meditation and a reflective talk, you’ll learn to listen inward, steady your intentions, and craft a mantra that meets you exactly where you are. “When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” -Audre Lorde

When I was younger,

I found a book on self-talk and how to make our self-talk more positive and I found it overwhelming.

It seemed as though the book was calling to change all of my thoughts all at once and that just didn't seem possible.

I was in a relatively negative space and I had a lot of anxiety and I knew that I couldn't change everything all at once.

So what I did is I took one line,

One statement,

And I just repeated that to myself over and over and over,

The same way you might repeat a favorite song on the radio,

Over and over on a loop.

Whenever I remembered or whenever I was feeling out of sorts or feeling anxious,

I would repeat that line.

I would tell myself that I am safe,

I am supported,

And I enjoy connecting with others.

As I moved forward,

I began to use personal mantras to focus more on my goals.

We're going to create a personal statement or a personal mantra today.

And we're doing this as a way of setting clarity and intention,

Setting the stage for this next cycle of activity,

This next cycle of life.

So there are a few best practices when creating your own personal statement and I want you to think about this as a way of looping in the message that you need right now.

It's really tempting to want to put too much into this statement,

But for this to really work,

You need to focus on what it is that you need first.

So ask yourself the question,

What is it that I need in order to achieve all of the things that I would like to achieve?

If for you,

Like me,

That begins with safety and just feeling secure and connected,

That's where you need to start.

And you can stick with that mantra for a while until you're ready to adopt something different.

So figuring out what it is that you need to establish first,

You can begin to create your mantra,

Leveraging the present tense,

And a lot of times it can be very powerful to use your name.

So you could say,

I,

Insert your name,

Am welcoming in more joy in my work,

Or I,

State your name,

Feel safe,

Secure,

And am open to new positive connections.

Or I,

State your name,

Easily find the time to meditate every day.

So write down your mantra and bonus points for including your name and try to make it as simple as possible.

So a simple sentence or a short sentence would be ideal.

And if you'd like,

You can pause this recording and take your time and mull it over and find the mantra that resonates for you the most.

And once you have it,

Write it down or circle it and begin to commit it to memory.

You have your paper or your document right in front of you.

So if you need to,

You can always refer to it,

But I'd like you to find a nice,

Seated meditative position again.

Closing your eyes.

Once again,

Tuning into the breath,

Taking a nice deep inhale.

And a gentle exhale.

Allowing your breath to be natural,

Just begin to repeat the mantra internally in your mind.

Repeat it over and over again.

As you breathe and sit here grounded,

Continue to repeat your mantra.

Continue to repeat your mantra.

Continue to repeat the mantra.

And if you need to read it,

You can.

Just repeat it over and over.

We're here for another 30 seconds.

Allow a gentle smile to cross your face and trust that this is just the beginning of your journey and your ability to connect with this new thought.

So your homework is to repeat this mantra.

Eyes closed or open,

Out loud or in your head,

It doesn't matter,

10 times every single day.

Ideally,

When you first wake up in the morning or just before you go to bed.

And the more that you repeat it,

You may find that when you are in a situation where you need to remember the message,

It will increasingly automatically come to mind.

That you are secure,

That you deserve positive connections,

That you find joy in your work,

That you are surrounded by loving people,

That you can share your work with confidence,

That you are open to the happiest version of you.

The most contentment,

Whatever your mantra is.

And you can always repeat this meditation and exercise with me whenever you feel like you need a little boost or if you'd like to try again with a different mantra.

So give it a full week and just notice what subtle shifts come.

I am wishing you all good things.

Thank you for practicing with me.
