On this morning,
As we awaken to this new day,
And we look about ourselves in the early light and momentary stillness,
Let us pause and give thanks for the great good fortune of caring for others.
Care,
It has been said,
Is the most fundamental human quality.
When we embody care,
We are most truly ourselves,
An aspect of the Dharma,
The heart of Agape.
Care for another is the embodiment of good on earth.
We may care for others in ways large and small,
In acts that are seen and well publicized,
Or acts that go unnoticed.
We might run a philanthropy that feeds the hungry,
Or simply pick up a neighbor's mail.
To each act of care,
Then,
Let us bring awareness,
A sense of selflessness,
An expression of grace.
With that will come an inner calm,
A softening of our bodies,
A slowing of our breath.
What great good fortune to have before us this day to care for others,
And in so doing,
Care for ourselves,
To be the most authentically human that we can be.
Let's take a few moments,
30 seconds,
To consider the possibilities.
On this morning,
As we awaken to a new day,
Let us pause,
Breathe into the moment,
And consider the great good fortune of caring for others,
And to experience the peace that accompanies.
