Hello beautiful souls,
This is June B and welcome to an amazing night's sleep.
Thanks for being here for another in the series of Bedtime Tales with June B.
Today we will take a trip to the seaside and have some fun.
Let's begin.
So get into your favourite sleeping position.
Make sure you're comfortable.
Close your eyes.
Relax your muscles and slowly imagine yourself melting into the bed.
Now let's go to your breathing,
Slowing down the heart rate and let's take some nourishing breaths together.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Last time breathe in.
Breathe out.
Settle in now.
Get comfortable.
Let go of everything that happened today and let's relax together.
Let yourself focus on my voice.
If your mind wanders it's okay.
Bring it back to the sound of my voice.
Keep your breathing slow and steady.
Let's go on our journey together.
I'm not sure about you.
I love going to the seaside.
Whenever I get a chance I go there as it has been a very healing place for me always.
I will take a weekend away as often as I can and take the time in cold weather or hot to be as close to the sea as I can and take in the cleansing and healing sea air.
Did you know that in the Caribbean they say that the sea is the cure to all ills?
People always tell you if you're feeling bad or any kind of way go and take a sea bath.
That's what they call it in my neck of the woods a sea bath.
Going to the seaside in the UK and then going to the seaside in the Caribbean is two totally different experiences as you could well imagine.
So today we are going to visit the seaside in the UK and revel in all the fun we may have had here as little kids and the fun we can still have here as adults.
So I love to go to the seaside as I have said before there is always such fun things to do when you get there.
Whether the particular seaside has a fun fair or not it makes no difference to my level of pleasure or adventurism for the location.
My only prerequisite for the seaside is the sea right?
I must be able to see the sea or I may as well be at home in a concrete jungle.
So here we are at the seaside in England.
As you can suspect it's a little bit crisp.
Not the bustling summer time yet so it is cooler in temperature and also not as busy with foot traffic which is something I always like.
I tend to stay away from the big crowds when I can.
I really enjoy my space where I can have the chance to fully explore without having to do too much queuing or waiting.
So the first thing I always do when I go to the seaside is check out the beach.
What does this beach look like?
Can you imagine it now?
Let's look at the scene together.
Firstly it is not busy and there are a few beach chairs on the beach and some kids having fun running up and down.
There are a couple of people with their dogs and throwing the ball for them into the water with a lot of fetch.
What fun these dogs look like they're having.
So we can hear the seagulls in the distance and walking through the pebbles that are on part of the beach we can hear the crispness under our feet.
As we walk the length of this stretch of the beach and check out the sand it is caramel brown.
Like that of the Demerara sugar you get in the sugar aisles of the supermarket from tropical sounding countries.
You take a minute and kneel down and pick up some of the sand and rub it through your fingers.
It is soft to the touch and as you rub it on the back of your hand you think this would make a really good scrub for my skin.
Imagine that.
You could start bagging the sea sand and selling it as organic body scrub.
Go figure huh?
So now we have walked the length of the beach it is time to have some lunch.
Now you can't come to the seaside in the UK and not partake of the local delicacy of fish and chips.
Some would even treat themselves to a little pickled onion or a gherkin on the side.
So after you go into the local chippy you collect the chips they are fresh and they burn your fingers when you take them out of the box.
And the fish looks like it's enough for about three people it is huge and beautifully fried with that crisp golden batter.
I shall tuck in.
In the UK when we go for fish and chips it is customary to have a fizzy drink.
Now I usually don't like fizzy drinks although there's something about the seaside that makes me think I should have one.
So I'll have a Lilt.
Now when I was going to school this drink called Lilt had an ad that said Lilt with a totally tropical taste.
It was a hit with all of my school mates.
So everyone went for it.
Now all these years later it brings back memories of school and all the shenanigans we got up to after school at the fish and chip shop.
Oh have to be careful now that I'm eating my fish and chips because the seagulls in the UK are renowned for stealing your chips if you don't keep your eyes on them.
When I got older fish and chips became a regular Friday night occurrence and you could not imagine a different meal on a Friday night come on.
Everyone would be lined up patiently waiting for the delicacy to be neatly wrapped up in six different pieces of paper with lashings of salt and onion vinegar for me.
Yes please.
So after we have devoured that fish fantasy boy does the sea air make you hungry.
We'll walk along the beach some more and watch the people having such a great time on the beach.
A few are playing volleyball and having a blast.
Others have their bucket and spade put out and trying to build that sandcastle before the tide comes in and ruins it all.
Then there are some people who only sit on the sand and look out to the horizon to see if they could imagine themselves there way in the distance and floating high on the biggest waves.
Imagine the scene for a moment.
As the afternoon is drawing in it is time for another must have when visiting the seaside in the UK.
An ice cream from the ice cream van.
Now my personal favourite is an ice cream called an oyster.
It is two oyster shaped wafers with one end filled with marshmallow covered in chocolate and sprinkled with coconut.
And the ice cream man would crack open the other end and fill it with the soft scoop ice cream that comes out of the machine.
Creamy,
Firm and brilliantly white.
All ready for you to demolish.
Now on top of that you would obviously get a flake,
Put it in the ice cream and if you was really fancy some chopped nuts and even a swirl of chocolate sauce.
Oh man what a treat.
Now you can't really say that you've enjoyed an ice cream in the UK unless it drips somewhere.
No matter how good you are at eating ice cream off of a cone you always have a drip or two somewhere.
It is like a rite of passage for all ice creams and ice cream eaters.
I'm sure you can imagine that scene now.
Ice cream in hand,
Check.
On a cone of course,
Check.
And as you start licking away it always melts faster than you can lick it up.
And of course someone taps you on the shoulder and says,
Oh dear love you've got ice cream on your top or on your shoes or on your trousers or wherever.
Matters not where,
It's all part of enjoying the ice cream experience right?
So now we wash up and as we relax along the beach again we find a little calf overlooking the amazing view of the sea and have a cup of tea and maybe to top it off a doughnut.
My kids would go crazy for the doughnuts at the seaside.
The ones where there's a little machine and you watch as the lady puts the batter in at one end and it sails along on a sea of oil.
Halfway through it gets flipped and then at the end it gets dropped into the final section and the lady asks you,
Would you like sugar or cinnamon sugar?
Oh these doughnuts really melt in your mouth and they're a wonderful treat before it's time to head back off home.
What a wonderful day at the seaside bringing back childhood memories and making new ones along the way.
I'm not sure about you but I'm getting sleepy even thinking about it.
So I'm ready to let go fully and surrender to sleep.
Thanks for joining me tonight and as you slowly drift away have yourself a great night's sleep and looking forward to seeing you again for another in the series of Bedtime Tales with June B.
Good night!
