The Power Of Surrender To Heal | Talk & Meditation
by Jamie Wozny
In this talk and meditation, Jamie shares the importance of surrender in order to heal and expand. It may seem counterproductive but it's the medicine we seek. This meditation gives you a space to surrender the fight and allows your nervous system to relax in order to gain wisdom and clarity. (Note: This meditation is recorded and repurposed from a live event and may contain light, non-intrusive background sounds.) Enjoy. Music by Christopher Gabriel

So today's meditation is going to be a surrender meditation.
Surrendering,
That is something I have had to learn about fiercely over the last few years and something that's really hard for us to do which is why I kind of wanted to speak to it a minute.
A lot of times when we hear the word surrender people can think resignation,
Like I'm just giving up what I'm doing,
It's irresponsible if you know say for some reason with anxiety that was mine.
The way through anxiety is to actually ironically allow the sensations of it because your brain is not trying to protect you from it.
So for years you know my teachers would say surrender to the sensations.
I'm like are you kidding me?
And your brain that's trying to keep you safe is going absolutely not.
We're gonna be in resistance to that,
We don't want that person to feel that and so then innocently what happens is we send the message to the brain yes you're right there is something wrong with these sensations but we even go so far as to say there's something wrong with me.
I'm not supposed to be like this,
I'm wrong and broken for feeling like this,
Whatever experience anxiety or whatever experience we're having and then we're in resistance to it.
So I have had so many cool teachers over the last ten years who teach this principle and how there are people dealing with chronic all sorts of things depression anxiety physical issues and 99% of the time it's because they are in resistance to the thing or in resistance to what they think the thing means.
So for example if you feel not enough and whatever you're chronically experiencing makes you feel that way it's this loop that gets perpetually fed.
So surrender is the antidote.
Other words we can use for this is acceptance.
These are all cousin words embrace,
Embrace is love.
So to welcome,
To embrace,
Interesting I put my hand on my heart,
To welcome,
To surrender to.
Surrender means and acceptance means I'm going to allow that which is here to be here without my judgment of it,
Without my rejection of it.
Knowing that that's an energetic experience and if there's something you need to keep you safe your inner wisdom or your amygdala and your brain too,
Fight or flight mechanism,
We'll say hey here's this thing go to this doctor take this supplement or this other thing might be helpful for you at the time.
So there's always that thing that has our back it's this fear of well what's gonna happen to me if I surrender this?
So remember it doesn't mean resignation it doesn't mean I'm giving up it just means I'm gonna quit fighting.
We're in a world of we hear it everywhere in our marketing and our media the fight against this and the fight against that well when we are in a fight against it keeps it alive in our bodies.
So instead of surrendering to the proper lingo should be surrendering to and allowing our wisdom to guide us back to healing around whatever we're feeling.
So if you are in resistance to something sad you're going through or anger or a lot of us are resistant to good things joy happiness love could you just allow yourself it's a practice that's why we're gonna start in the meditation to welcome and surrender to and allow without judgment give up the fight against whatever is moving through you in the moment letting go of the story you've made around it we create a story this is wrong this is bad this isn't safe I'm unlovable I'm not perfect enough I'm gonna be abandoned if I feel this way people won't like me as opposed to offering ourselves our own safety our own love and our own acceptance of going all right I give up this fight I've been fighting this thing forever got no other options at this point let me see what's on the other side of just surrendering to this anxiety surrendering to this depression seems like it's gonna consume us but you've probably heard story after story after story after story that's the way through every anxiety book is welcome it I remember in college I was having really bad panic attacks and my therapist at the time said save the anxiety come on give me your worst come on give me your worst and I'm like you're kidding me I don't want to feel that and that was the way through you know my panic my panic attacks luckily went away however long ago that was in college because I welcomed it and we're afraid to because we think it's gonna consume us but we are meant energy is yes it can get really intense but it's meant to move through us my dad actually healed his depression that way when I was young he surrendered to it he was like all right I'm gonna lay in bed and I'm gonna be sad for as many days as I need to be and not just take the story away from it knowing that okay if there's a book I need to read or a therapist I need to go to I'll go but it's energy and what we resist persists we know that you know the science behind it and so if we allow if we surrender if we accept oddly it seems counterproductive to our brain because we're like holding it all together in so much control I can't let this go I'm not gonna be okay it's too much people are gonna abandon me I'm gonna be consumed by this whatever it is that we feel and it does take a little bit of bravery and courage to go all right let me see let me see what happens and then find those teachers and then those mentors who have taken that path and who have actually found it to be a positive path a path where more love comes in more healing comes in more intimacy more depth comes in as opposed to the opposite because you get to experience being a real human being it's it's unconditional love surrender is unconditional love okay so let's meditate take these next 20 minutes to do a surrender meditation you can sit up or lay down close your eyes if you haven't done so yet just get your wiggles out get cozy and remember we've been going full steam ahead so it's gonna take us a minute I don't know who came up with this statistic but they monitored meditators and it took them 11 minutes to actually start to let go of the spinning of the brain and the brain to catch on and go oh wait a minute they're sitting here relaxing I can I can chill out so don't worry surrender to the human brain spins and so I is relaxed body relaxed sitting out laying down feeling that physical connection between your body and the ground just allowing yourself to get present setting an intention for this collective group today as you begin to set an intention for yourself I still feel like I'm just sitting here today as you begin to set an intention for yourself I surrender that doesn't mean I resign I accept I welcome my embrace as best as I can that which is moving through me in the moment I choose to give up the fight against myself as I can see that's only creating energetic log jams and not actually serving me liberation of my being of my light and as difficult as it seems I'm going to gently allow surrender to accept welcome embrace whatever's moving through me today knowing that it's just energy that wants to be felt and then released the more that I practice letting go of the story just welcome the energy with unconditional love the more light the more joy the more happiness and peace that shines through the cracks it's just how it works it's natural for me to feel all things and if others don't understand this journey I'm on I need to share it until I'm comfortable I can do this for myself knowing that if I need to take an action step from my common sense or wisdom or wisdom I'll know to do so surrendering doesn't make me unintelligent just allows what needs to move through me to move through me without what I've made it up to mean about me today I surrender to whatever wants to move through me so my eyes are relaxed my body is soft my body is connected to the ground underneath of me and just for now I let go of the narration that my mind has about my life not trying to make this go away as this is part of me being human but just for now I soften that aspect so that this other energy can move through me just let it be energy so I breathe into my belly as my breath allows a flow of energy of thought and emotion to move a bit easier through me it allows me to defrost and thaw out so see if during today's meditation you can move from your head into your body into your being into the present what is and sometimes when we become more aware we feel more and it's really intense and it's okay it's okay to feel a lot I feel a lot all day every day but it's okay to come down into the body it's okay to feel it's okay to embrace it's okay to love it's okay to allow dropping a little deeper than the stories letting this be weather moving through the sky kind of quite I've forgotten what the weather means I'm just allowing these sensations to be present within me no matter how comfortable or uncomfortable I surrender to whatever it is I'm fighting against right now almost as if you were holding on to a steering wheel really tight and you just loosen your grip like one of those childhood rides where the car is already on a track and you don't need to steer you just thought you did so you let go right now and you begin to enjoy the ride as you continue to breathe perhaps you feel yourself moving from a space of rigidity and fight against something into a higher level of consciousness where you embrace whatever that thing is for you allow you acknowledge see here understand welcome surrender to okay you can be here I know that in your own time you will move as all energy does and my loving awareness of you allows you to thaw out and stick and blow so all I have to do is relax my body soften three I'm tired of holding on so tight tired of fighting I give up I give up I allow this energy with whatever sensation it carries to be here and release in its own time but I just observe it as best as I can whatever is here for me without my story could I forget my story for a moment that it's bad or wrong or scary or shameful and could I just for a minute have it mean absolutely nothing could I breathe into it and hug it and welcome it knowing that this is all it needs to start to flow to allow my life force energy to come back online again it's waiting right behind this just a little bit of an energetic log jam the more I breathe and welcome loud surrender or this energy can begin to unstick and the river can flow and all experience can be felt and then released neither good nor bad but thinking makes it so you you what am I fighting against what do I wish was different what am I trying to fix about myself you knowing that there's still great wisdom for me around this topic could I surrender to my mind's agenda and open up to wisdom as I allow this to be as it is without my judgment does it mean I'm giving up on it it just means I'm allowing the energy it contains to be present to be seen to be witnessed to move in its own time and that's a and breathing and go holding so tightly letting go of the fight against you just breathe and soften as our mind has put up a fortress around us allowing ourselves to unconditionally love all aspects of us as we start to welcome our own being into our own safe arms we relearn that we accept all parts knowing that that doesn't mean we give up on growth or expansion but that we love that which was here because of course it was here given the experience that we've had so we give up the fight feeling yourself melting away from holding on so tight feeling yourself embracing allowing softening breathing the darkness and the light as every human has both it's safe to be seen in our fullness and as we do this we give others permission to do the same just relax into soften into small baby bits come into your awareness feeling the raw energy without the story just stations in the body open heart allowing it to move no more fighting so so slowly breathing in and out of the belly as we welcome the sensations and go of needing to time them or control them as i once heard this beautiful phrase we needn't be healed we simply need to be heard so that little one in you that has had all these experiences doesn't need to be fixed or made different that little one just needs to be welcomed accepted heard just as you're doing now to sit with all the energies here to surrender the fight and to just kind of relax into your experience so that love can offer its medicine accordingly i just slowly begin to bring your awareness to that physical connection between your body and the space underneath of you aware that your bottom is on the ground your awareness is right behind your eyes planted inside of your body and you're back in your breath as you take three deep cleansing breaths in and out of the body i surrender slowly stretching and wiggling and moving your body back to the afternoon and you can open up your eyes whenever you're ready so so so.

I loved the talk and the meditation that followed. Jamie thank you for this. And thank you Christopher Gabriel for the music. It just fitted and supported so well. The pauses for my thoughts were welcome Jamie. You really helped me understand surrender is not giving up. There's another way. I can see my struggle and fight derived from very early trauma has exhausted me over many years. It's contributed to multiple sclerosis I'm sure. I'm 60 but it's never too late to learn and practice another way. Thank you so much for showing a way to greater happiness and well-being. Namaste.

Surrender is such a rich theme, isn’t it? Such as surrendering to the idea that we aren’t and probably never will be “perfect” by another’s standards, and yet we are still lovable and capable of putting much love into the world 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
