Life has a way of testing us.
Not once,
Not twice,
But again and again,
In ways we didn't see coming,
And sometimes in ways we thought we had already outgrown.
And in those moments,
There is one quality that makes all the difference.
Neither the absence of pain,
Nor the ability to pretend things are fine,
But resilience.
The magical,
Extraordinary capacity to keep going.
Though resilience doesn't mean you are unaffected.
It doesn't mean you don't cry,
You don't struggle,
You don't lie awake wondering how you will get through what is in front of you.
Resilience is not the armor that keeps the hard things out.
It is the deep root system that holds you in place while the storm moves through.
There is an image I want to offer you,
One I hope stays with you long after this video ends.
Think of palm tree in a hurricane.
The trunk bends sometimes so far that it seems like it cannot possibly survive but it does not snap.
Actually,
After a storm,
A palm tree's trunk gets stronger than it was before.
The very thing that was meant to break it made it grow.
The storm is not the enemy of the palm tree.
The storm is what builds it.
That is you.
That is what has been happening to you every single time life has knocked you sideways and you have found your way back.
You are not just surviving those moments,
You are being built by them.
Now,
I know the word resilience can sometimes feel like a lot of pressure.
Like someone is saying,
Be strong,
Push through,
Don't let it get to you.
And I want to be very clear that is not what I mean.
Resilience is not about performing strength.
It is not about skipping the grief or rushing the healing.
It is about trusting,
Even in the middle of the difficulty,
That you have something inside you that will not be extinguished.
And good news is.
.
.
That something is not a personality trait you either have or you don't.
Resilience is not reserved for certain kinds of people.
It lives in every one of us.
It lives in the parent who after the hardest day imaginable still finds a way to hold their child gently.
It lives in the person who gets the devastating news and slowly finds a path back to meaning.
It lives in every moment you have said,
Even without words.
I am still here.
I am going to keep going.
It lives in you right now.
So how do we build it,
Especially when we are in the middle of something that feels like it might be too much for us?
The first thing I have seen make a difference is how we interpret what is happening to us.
The story we tell ourselves about our difficulties matters enormously.
When something hard arrives,
Our minds can very quickly move into catastrophe,
Into the belief that this is proof we cannot handle life,
That this is the end of something without any beginning on the other side.
But what if the story could be different?
What if a setback happened?
Were not proof of your limits but information about what this particular chapter is asking of you.
What if the question were not why is this happening to me but what is this asking from me?
That small shift in how we hold an experience can change everything about how we move through it.
The second thing that builds resilience is memory.
Your own past is full of proof that you are more capable than your fear is currently telling you.
Think of something you have already been through,
Something that felt impossible at the time,
And that you are now standing on the other side of.
You may not remember exactly how you got through it.
But it doesn't matter because you did.
That is the evidence.
That quiet knowing that you have survived before and come out of it with something you did not have going in,
Is one of the most powerful resources you carry.
The third is flexibility.
The palm tree doesn't resist the hurricane.
It moves with it.
And that movement,
That willingness to bend rather than brace,
Is what allows it to survive and grow stronger.
Resilience asks us to hold our plans,
Our expectations and our timelines a little more loosely,
To be willing to find a different door when the one we were walking toward closes.
To trust that the path is still there even when we cannot yet see where it leads.
You are not the sum of what has happened to you.
You are the sum of how you have responded.
And every time you have gotten up,
Even slowly,
Even imperfectly,
Even while still hurting,
You have added to the root system that holds you.
And now I would like to invite you to feel that,
Not just think it,
But actually feel it in your body.
What follows is a short practice.
And all it asks of you is a few minutes and the willingness to be still.
So whenever you are ready,
Let us begin.
Sit comfortably with both feet flat on the floor and let your hands rest gently on your lap.
Take a long,
Slow breath in through your nose.
And release it all the way out with a soft exhale.
While you let your eyes close.
Take one more breath.
This one slower and deeper.
And as you exhale.
Let your shoulders drop.
Let your jaw soften.
Let this moment hold you for a little while.
Now bring to mind something you are in the middle of right now.
A difficulty,
A change,
An uncertainty.
Something that is asking more of you than you expected.
Do not try to solve it though.
Just let it be present with you without judgment.
Whatever it is.
It is real.
And you are allowed to feel the weight of it.
Now imagine yourself as a palm tree.
Feel your feet on the floor as roots extending down through the earth beneath you.
Reaching further than you can see.
Drawing up something steady.
And old and strong.
Feel how held you are.
How safe you are.
The wind begins to move around you.
You can feel it.
The trunk bends and you let it.
You don't fight it.
You just breathe.
Can you bend?
And you stay rooted.
Now bring to mind one time in your past when you faced something that felt impossible.
And you came through it.
It doesn't have to be dramatic.
It just has to be true.
Hold that memory gently.
Let your body remember what it felt like to still be standing on the other side.
That strength is not behind you.
It is inside you.
It has been building for every year of your life.
And it's here right now,
In this moment.
Holding you through this one too.
Let that land for you.
Now slowly begin to bring your awareness back to the room.
Feel the floor beneath your feet.
Take a gentle breath in.
And when you're ready.
Let your eyes open softly.
For more support with grounding and inner steadiness.
