Good morning and welcome to your day.
Welcome to this beautiful,
Lucky day that you have ahead of you.
Have you ever seen a building that's being renovated and it has this ugly scaffolding up for years and years?
And you forget how beautiful the building and the street was without it.
At some point you accept that building as being the scaffolding,
Just in a constant state of work.
This is what we're experiencing as humans right now.
There is an obsession with self-improvement at the minute.
We continually craft scaffolding up in our life,
Fixing structures,
Foundations,
Brickwork,
Moulding,
Altering,
Bending,
Knocking down,
Building up,
Trying to improve,
Trying to be better,
Trying to reach this illusory level of perfection.
It sometimes feels like nothing we can ever do is good enough.
Something always needs fixed,
Whether that's our diet,
Our workout,
Our friendships,
Our body,
Our job.
And we feel like,
How did we get so unlucky?
Why does everyone else have such glamorous,
Lucky lives apart from me?
Our world has been intentionally built around comparison,
And in comparison to the shiny social media lifestyle,
All of us probably feel like we've been dealt a bad hand in some way.
We know really that that's an illusion,
But sometimes it doesn't make it sting any less because part of us still feels like we're not on par with everyone else.
But everyone else is not us.
Answer me a question.
Are you even enjoying your life outside of all of this self-improvement?
As my mother would say,
Comparison is the thief of joy.
And our minds,
This scaffolding,
Ties chains around possibility.
And seeing the luck that is in front of our very eyes.
When something occurs,
An event,
A scenario,
It just is.
It's our reactions and mental scaffolding that make it a problem.
We experience the event,
Then we hike up the scaffolding,
One pole at a time,
Trying to work it out,
Trying to fix the problem or the emotion,
Labeling it as bad or not good enough,
Rather than just experiencing it.
And life just continues doing its life thing.
It's just experiencing itself.
The birds continue to sing,
The wheels continue to hop.
So how can you feel lucky when you feel like maybe everything's going wrong or that you don't have what everyone else has?
Well,
Let me give you another analogy.
Life is like playing a game of poker.
You're the player.
Life is the game.
You will get dealt different hands and everyone gets dealt different hands.
If you're a good poker player,
You'll work with the hand that you're dealt.
You'll play the game.
You'll charm your way through.
And even if you're given a complete dud hand,
As a good player you might even win.
When a bad player is dealt a bad hand,
What do they do?
They sulk.
They think and babble on about all the reasons they've lost and how their luck is bad and how life is not fair.
And guess what?
Even when they get a good hand,
They'll poke flaws in it too.
Don't you see?
The goal of life is not to have a perfect life.
It's not to be a carbon copy perfect version of a human,
Whatever that is.
It's to see the play that's woven through it,
Even in painful moments.
If you're feeling unlucky in life at the minute,
Take a moment to take a deep breath.
Let's do it together.
Inhale deeply.
Exhale completely.
If you feel like you can't catch a break,
This is not an avalanche of bad luck.
It's just life experiencing itself.
Maybe the pain that you're feeling needs to be felt and burned through in order to make way for the light that's just on the line.
But if you want to see your luck change.
First you have to accept yourself as you are.
Right now it's time to take down that scaffolding.
Stop trying to change everything about yourself to unveil some impeccable version of you that,
Well,
Doesn't exist.
You are so lucky.
You don't need to be over there to be ahead of yourself.
What is right here?
What majestic things has the universe already been sending you?
What whispers have come from the universe,
Little synchronicities,
Possible friendships,
Alignments,
Opportunities.
These don't have to be massive things,
Just little hints that the universe wants to play.
And when the scaffolding is up and we're just constantly trying to change who we are and the way our life is.
.
.
We're not gonna see these little glimmers of joy,
These little glimmers of luck that surround you.
Trying to improve yourself continuously and missing out on the life that you're trying to improve for.
Luck surrounds you.
It just wants you to notice it.
It just wants to be accepted and nurtured.
The Stoics say amor fati,
The love of fate.
In other words,
Loving,
Being entirely grateful for everything that happens.
How can you practice loving fate,
Feeling blessed,
Feeling lucky when things are rough and painful and frustrating?
I promise you,
It's possible.
How about rather than dividing things into good and bad and what things should or shouldn't look like We just play this little game.
We charm our way through the day.
We dance with whatever hand we're dealt.
Feel the emotions,
But don't get stuck in their grip.
Don't let them hold on to you with their claws.
Know that you're lucky.
No matter what has happened to you.
How are you looking at life through those glistening eyes of yours today?
Are they seeing the goodness in every moment?
Are you looking around thinking,
Oh,
Here we go.
This day,
I am lucky,
And I'm gonna choose luck,
Because that's what it's really about.
Deciding and choosing,
Accepting that you are lucky.
Have the best,
Most beautiful day.
