If you've had a baby recently, I encourage you to take these few minutes for yourself to tune in to your own body. So often with new mamas, we forget to take this time or feel that we cannot and suddenly it's been ages!

This is a meditation for women that have recently birthed a baby in whatever way in whatever place.

Perhaps you've birthed many times,

Perhaps you birthed just yesterday or last month.

Use this meditation to obtain some quiet time even if your baby is nearby sleeping.

Make sure you can dedicate a few minutes in this time and space to yourself.

First,

Just get comfortable.

Maybe you're laying down,

You're sitting up,

Maybe you're lying in your bed.

Just take a few seconds and use pillows or blankets.

Make the room more comfortable.

Really think about yourself,

Your own needs,

What your body is asking for and make it happen.

Once you feel more comfortable in your space,

Close your eyes if that feels good and just be.

Having a new baby,

A young baby,

Having a young child takes so much of our own vital life force and we give this willingly.

But long stretches of time can pass before we realize that we don't know how we feel in our own skin.

We've been dedicating our bodies to another.

Just witness your body in this moment in whatever comes up.

Maybe it's your neck that needs some stretching.

Maybe it's your hips that feel tight from sitting.

Maybe you notice how relaxed your legs feel.

Just witness any message your body has for you right now without judgment,

Without needing to fix it,

Other than moving or stretching or releasing energy in a way that your body is asking for right now.

Maybe it's a simple hello to your body.

Hello body,

You are now mine again.

You are no longer growing a person inside of you.

Welcome back.

How does it feel to be in your body?

And if there are uncomfortable or unpleasant or difficult sensations or emotions,

That's fine and normal too.

You can decide how much of that feeling you're willing and able to feel right now.

Sometimes in the postpartum time we are surprised by emotions like grief and sadness.

We may have been told or we may have thought that having a baby and having the baby out only brings happy feelings.

And while this is true for some and true for all of us at various moments in time,

The time after birth can also be heavy.

It can be weighty and there can be again feelings of grief,

Loneliness,

Anger,

Sadness,

Things we don't often expect to feel in our bodies but that are there even in tiny amounts usually for most of us.

So if you're feeling any of that,

Just allowing,

Just witnessing,

Pausing the recording to feel even more deeply,

Maybe to cry or journal if you need to.

And if you're not feeling those things at this particular time,

Focus in on what you are feeling.

Maybe it is a feeling of bliss,

Of openness,

Of happiness.

Finding these spaces in our bodies that just want to speak.

We don't have to know what it means.

We don't even have to label it.

We don't have to believe it will stick around longer than it needs to.

But in this moment,

Feeling all the feelings.

Maybe these are from birth.

Maybe you're close enough to the birth experience that there is still so much lingering in your body energetically.

Birth is a huge energetic experience,

Not to mention physical,

Emotional,

And spiritual.

Maybe you don't know what you're feeling or why you're feeling it and that's okay too.

You may pause the recording if you need more time but when you feel like you are done witnessing your body,

Just for now,

Say a tiny prayer of gratitude for all of your body,

From your head all the way down to your toes in growing,

Birthing,

And nourishing another soul.

No matter what story or judgments you might have on your past experience,

Pure gratitude.

And finding that feeling wherever it lives in your body,

No matter how big or small.

Thank you,

Body,

For being amazing,

For living,

For thriving,

For allowing me to feel whatever you bring.

Take some breaths.

Maybe some more cleansing deep breaths,

Just releasing whatever is ready to go,

Reminding yourself that you're here in this body now.

And if you're able,

After those cleansing breaths,

Bringing your breath down into your body,

Into your belly,

Reacquainting yourself with this space,

With your whole abdomen and pelvis,

Reacquainting the breath with these spaces in our body that were not long ago filled with baby,

With placenta,

With fluid.

And bringing the breath to these spaces,

Maybe it's into your abdomen,

Your belly,

Maybe you're able to bring your breath down into your pelvic bowl,

Your pelvic floor,

As if this is the first time you have ever done that.

And reacquainting yourself with how these places in your body feel after giving birth.

And just notice,

Is it difficult to bring the breath there?

Is it easy?

Does it feel like there are some blocks and energy anywhere?

Are you able to see in your mind's eye any colors,

Any images?

You are just reacquainting yourself with this magical part of your body that has,

For the last bunch of months,

Had a very specific job.

And if you were able in your mind's eye to look around the inside of your body,

Perhaps down into your pelvic bowl,

And the pelvic bowl is just the area that holds all of our female organs,

Our ovaries,

Our uterus,

All the ligaments.

Imagine an actual bowl inside your pelvis,

Holding.

And what does the bowl look like?

What is the texture?

What is the color?

Is it shimmery?

Is it shiny?

Just take a look around with your mind's eye,

Using your breath,

Taking a scan to see what it looks like in there now.

Without a large uterus to take up space,

Does it feel vacant?

Does it feel warm and cozy?

Are there spots in your pelvic bowl that are hard to see?

Maybe they are full with energy or emotion,

Or maybe you're just not supposed to see that right now.

Taking another look around,

Just noting what comes into our mind's eye,

Our images,

Giving gratitude for this part of our body,

Our pelvic floor,

And bowl that held up our baby,

Our placenta,

All of this weight,

Having this very specific job to do,

And now being empty in a sense.

And posing the question,

How will I use this creative space going forward?

This may not be a question you're ready to ask.

If you are,

The answer may or may not come soon or later,

But simply posing the question to our body,

Allowing our body to know at a deep level that she is useful,

She is valuable,

She is creative.

The miracle of growing a baby and birthing is a pinnacle of creativity and worth,

But we are no less worthy.

You are no less creative and magical now that the baby is out.

So asking our bodies this question with an open heart and open mind,

And taking the last few minutes here to focus in on the uterus,

Depending on how far you are from the birth process having happened,

Your uterus will be of different size.

So if you're many months or weeks even from having given birth,

Your uterus will be nestled in your pelvis about fist size.

So you may visualize her as a color,

Texture.

If you have just given birth just days ago,

Your uterus is still larger than normal and perhaps a bit out of your pelvis into your abdomen,

So you might still be able to feel her from the outside.

No matter what size or shape your uterus is,

Just observing her,

Just witnessing her in all of her glory,

She was able to conceive,

She was able to facilitate the growth of a placenta of a baby and hold them until birth.

And now in the days or weeks after birth,

She is healing.

She is healing energetically from the big job she had to do,

She was willing to do,

And she is healing physically from the placenta and the scar that remains.

She is healing emotionally and spiritually as all the women that have come before us have crossed the same threshold,

Remembering that this is not something we do entirely alone,

That every woman before us and after us goes through this exact same physical process.

Just witnessing her,

Thanking her,

Feeling her in all of the emotion that you may have come up,

Knowing you can come back to your uterus,

To your pelvic bowl,

To your entire body at any time you wish,

That these places are always there to remind us,

To help us remember,

To bring forth anything that needs our attention,

And that even with a young baby or child taking these moments is so important for our own health and well-being.

Taking a last breath,

Maybe stretching,

Arching our back,

Doing whatever feels good,

Thanking our bodies again for the miracle of pregnancy and birth,

And the miracle of being here now in this amazing postpartum body.

Blessed Be.
