Find a comfortable position.
You can sit upright.
Lie down.
Or simply find a place where your body feels supported.
Close your eyes if that feels comfortable.
Place one hand over your heart.
And the other over your belly.
And before we do anything else.
.
.
Just notice your breath.
No need to change it yet.
Simply notice yourself breathing.
Notice the rise.
.
.
And the fall.
The receiving,
And the releasing.
And as you settle here,
Remember that you are not alone.
God is here.
You don't need to find the perfect words.
You don't need to arrive with everything figured out.
You can simply come as you are.
With your worries,
Your questions,
Your uncertainty.
All the things that have been sitting heavily on your heart.
God already knows.
So let this time become.
A practice of giving those things back to him.
Let's begin by deepening the breath.
Slowly breathe in through your nose for 1,
2,
3,
4,
And gently breathe out for 6,
5,
4,
3,
2,
1.
Again,
Breathe in for 1,
2,
3,
4,
And release for 6,
5,
4,
3,
2,
1.
Breathe in,
Receiving God's presence.
And breathe out,
Releasing what you've been carrying.
Continue breathing slowly.
And with every exhale,
Allow your body to soften a little more.
Your forehead softens.
Your jaw relaxes.
Shoulders drop.
Your hands loosen.
Your belly softens.
You don't have to hold everything so tightly here.
Now in your mind.
Begin to notice what you have been carrying lately.
Don't try to solve anything.
Don't analyze it.
Just know this.
Maybe there's one particular worry that immediately comes to mind.
Perhaps something about your future,
Your work,
Family,
A relationship,
Money,
A decision.
Something you're waiting for,
Something you wish you could control.
Whatever comes up.
Allow it to be there.
And take a breath in.
As you breathe out,
Say,
God,
I give this to you.
Again,
Breathe in.
And breathe out,
God,
I give this to you.
Scripture reminds us in 1 Peter 5 to cast our anxieties on God because he cares for us.
Not because our worries are insignificant,
Not because we should pretend they don't exist,
But because we have somewhere to place them.
We have someone who is willing to carry them.
So now,
I want you to imagine God's hands in front of you.
Strong,
Open,
Steady.
You don't need to picture God himself.
Simply imagine two open hands.
Waiting to receive whatever you're ready to release.
Bring that first worry to mind.
Maybe you can imagine holding it like a small stone in your hands.
Feel its weight.
Notice how long you may have been carrying it.
And when you're ready,
Imagine placing it into God's hands.
You don't have to fix it first.
You don't have to understand it first.
Just place it there.
Take a deep breath in.
And as you breathe out,
Repeat,
I give it to you,
God.
Now notice if something else is waiting underneath.
Another worry.
Another fear.
Another question.
Perhaps something you keep replaying.
Bring it gently into your awareness.
Hold it for just a moment.
And then place that one into God's hands too.
And breathe out.
I give it to you God.
Perhaps there's a person you're worried about,
Someone you love.
Someone whose choices you can't control.
Someone you wish you could protect.
Picture their name.
Resting in your hands.
And remember,
God loves them too.
So breathe in.
And as you breathe out,
Place them into His care.
God,
I give them to you.
Maybe there is something about your future.
A path,
You can't see it.
A decision you don't know how to make.
A door you desperately want open.
A prayer you're waiting to see answered?
Bring that uncertainty into your hands.
And hear the wisdom of Proverbs 3.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart.
Do not depend only on your own understanding.
Acknowledge him in your ways,
And he will direct your path.
You don't need to see the entire road today.
You only need enough light for the step right in front of you.
Take a breath in.
And breathe out,
God,
I give you my future.
Let's continue with the breath.
This time,
As you breathe in.
Silently Say.
I trust you.
And as you breathe out,
I release control.
Breathe in,
I trust you,
And as you breathe out,
I release control.
Really feeling into what this feels like to surrender.
Again,
Breathe in,
I trust you.
Breathe out,
I release control.
The God who created the mountains and the seas.
The birds and the fish in the sea.
Who has created things far beyond our imagination.
How can we depend on ourselves?
We can trust him.
Again,
Breathe in.
I trust you.
Breathe out,
I release control.
Notice how your body feels.
Maybe there's a little more space.
Maybe the worry is still there.
That's okay.
Surrender doesn't always mean that the feeling immediately disappears.
Sometimes surrender simply means choosing not to carry something alone anymore.
And when we pick it back up,
We can give it to God again,
And again,
And again.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 6,
Look at the birds and to consider the lilies.
Creation does not spend today trying to control tomorrow.
The flowers simply receive what God gives them – light,
Rain,
Nourishment.
And Jesus reminds us that our Heavenly Father already knows what we need.
So imagine that one final thing you've been carrying.
Maybe this is the deepest one,
The thing beneath all the other worries.
The thing you've been afraid to fully surrender.
Hold it gently.
There's no judgment here.
God already knows.
And now open your hands physically.
Turn your palms upward.
Let your hands become part of the prayer.
Take a slow breath in.
And as you breathe out,
Imagine releasing that final weight.
Let it fall from your hands into his.
God,
I can't control everything.
I can't predict everything and I can't carry everything.
I was never meant to.
So I give you what I've been holding.
All my questions,
My fears,
My plans,
My expectations,
The people I love,
The doors I hope will open,
The things I don't understand.
I place them all into your hands.
Return your attention to your breathing.
Breathe in slowly.
And receive.
Breathe out and release.
Breathe in,
God is with me.
Breathe out,
I don't have to carry this.
Breathe in,
God is with me.
Breathe out and give it to him.
One final deep breath in.
Hold gently for a moment.
And slowly release.
God,
Thank you for meeting us here today.
Thank you that we don't have to have all the answers.
When we begin picking at these worries again,
Remind us of this moment.
Remind us to open our hands and to surrender and trust you.
So today I choose to walk forward with open hands.
What is mine to do,
Give me wisdom to do it.
What is not mine to carry,
Give me faith to release it.
I give this day to you,
I give these worries to you,
And I place myself into your loving hands.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Take one last gentle breath.
And when you're ready,
Slowly open your eyes.
Carry this with you today.
You don't have to carry.
What you've already given to God.
